I used this tap along with a 47/64" drill when turning some 1" PVC rod on my lathe to create a PVC adapter.I turned the PVC down and glued it into a piece of 1" electrical PVC conduit then drilled/tapped the insert for 1/2" NPS thus allowing me to install a 1/2" gland nut into a 1" LR PVC conduit body for my StarLink satellite system.Needless to say, the tap works perfectly with 1/2" electrical fittings.

There are different types of taps. There is no "standard tap" although the Tapered Tap is what you see at the orange and blue stores. This is a tap for flat bottom holes so you can get threads cut to nearly the bottom of the hole. If you can't get it started in your hole, you begin with a tapered tap and then switch to this. This flat bottom tap works fine for through holes too. I used an 11/32 size hole for aluminum and 21/64 for soft PVC board. YMMV.This tap is well built and I am glad to have one made in USA.

Superb craftsmanship, and I use their cobat drill bits and step bits as well. For the machinists in the group, think Tawain quality, rather than Chinese. It's not Starret or Mitutoyo quality, but nicely done for the price. Most folks will use the 1/8-27 to tap brass lamp fittings, so it will serve them well.

I bought this specialty tap to clean out and chase the threads on my brass Champion pop-up sprinkler heads. I wire wheel the body,stem, and brass insert to clean them up. Install a new insert o'ring and rubber stem seal so they don't leak. Rebuilt!
