Drilled 4 Holes Into 1/4" Plate. Works Great With Cutting Lube, Still Sharp.

I bought this Drill America bit to cut holes for hinges for our bull gates and it seems to hold up. We’ve been using 4.5†steel pipe posts that are about 3/8†thick for our cattle corral and have been needing a big hole to fit the hinges. Using this ¾†bit in combination with smaller pilot holes that got up to 9/16â€, I was able to repeatedly put holes in our tough steel posts. After trying other bits, the same size that were allegedly rated for metal from Theisen’s and Mill’s fleet farm and having them dull out before even getting through the first hole, I decided to look up what would be best and multiple sources recommended using a cobalt bit. Between the black oxide and this cobalt one, there’s no comparison. The Drill America bit cuts faster and stays sharper for much much longer. Overall, this bit is a lifesaver and I’d highly recommend it for anyone who needs to cut tough metal.

This drill bit performed well drilling a number of 5/8 inch holes for modifying a farm implement. I had tried a new big name bit previously and it failed after a few holes through 1/4 inch steel. Great bit for the money.

Needed to drill out some rusted, hard steel bolts. I got 3 bolts done. Bit was getting kind of dull (yes, I used cutting oil, and a slow speed drill) halfway through the second bolt. Expected more life out of a cobalt bit.

UPDATE. Purchased the DeWalt version of this drill bit for a few dollars less and got a far superior product. Drilled eight holes with the DeWalt bit in roughly the same time to took to drill one with the Drill America bit.Very disappointing. 1/4 inch steel plate with 1/2 inch holes pre-drilled. Bought this bit to enlarge holes to 5/8. Once the bit drills to its actual diameter it stops cutting and just spins. Does an excellent job of polishing a v-shape in the metal. Probably very good drilling holes in butter and Jello but not great in steel. Can not recommend.

I had a need to enlarge the lug stud holes on two wheel hubs to as close as I could get to .600" using my drill press. I drilled out ten holes using lots of cutting oil and this drill bit maintained it's sharpness throughout the process.

Drilled 3/4 " holes(4) into a stainless steal Merc Bravo propeller. Needed a drill press to do it though.

I drilled 16 holes in 1/4" steel plates. Used 5w20 as lube since I ran out of tap oil. Showing some signs of wear but overall still good. Definitely not a pro grade drill bit but for 1/2 the price I was happy I got the job done.
