Construction is as follows: The center portion is a non-ferrous cast metal and the handles are chrome plated steel with a nice knurl on the end for gripping. The die fits nicely in the center portion and has three knurled, slotted thumbscrews for securing the die into the die stock. I used mine to chase some 7/8-14 threads and it worked very well. The die stock is too short for cutting new threads in big diameter material, but would be fine for new threading up to 1/2". Overall it's a really nice tool for the money.

I like this 2" die stock and would buy it again. However, here's some things other shoppers might want to know if they are considering this purchase. First, the photo doesn't match the tool I received. In fact, I like the one they sent better than the one in the photo. I've attached 3 photos. There are 4 threaded holes (not 3), with 5/16-18 screws. Only one has a protruding knurled head, the others are flush set screws. All 4 are slotted for a flat screwdriver. The screw with the knurled head is pointed at the other end. All 3 set screws are rounded at the business end and the rounded tip seems to fit well into the 2" dies that I have. Unfortunately the holes are not tapped at right angles to the die body. I screwed a longer bolt into one hole and took a photo so you can see the hole is clearly at an angle. The angle is not consistent in the 4 holes, so I don't believe this has any design purpose, but rather, an indication of poor quality. Other than the angle of the holes it appears to be good quality tool. The overall length is 15.5 inches and the handles are about 9/16" diameter.

Product only has 1 lock screw hole - not 3 as shown in the image. Does not evenly support die. Image is NOT representative of the product.

I chose these die stocks BECAUSE of the 3-screw retention design and good satisfaction with several drill/tap sets that I've recently purchased from Drill America on Amazon. But that is NOT what was shipped.I got one 13/16" and one 1" but both came with single retaining screws. They appear to be solid and well made but I was VERY disappointed. I also bought 1 5-44 die from Drill America in this order and the die fits the 13/16" as expected but the die is made in China, not Made in USA. I guess Drill America is USA in name only? Caveat Emptor comes to mind so I guess it's my own fault for setting expectations too high.

This is a decent tool for the price. Yes it is cheap, and no it will not stand up to professional settings. Such as a machine shop, or an auto shop. But for the home owner it does a decent job, does not look cheap, and does not break the bank either.

Good quality tap handle for large style outside tapping dies, definitely not up to the standard of high end Starrett US made handles, but for an emergency job with a non-standard tap it did the job
