This die allowed me to thread a shift adapter after I cut it to length. The die had no problem threading hardened steel. Just go slowly, and be sure to use cutting oil.I have no doubt this die will last a long time, unlike some cheaper dies.

My ATV had 8 damaged tire studs and it was either knock out all the studs and replace them or rethread them. I chose to rethread. This die was super smooth and made the job easy. I had some studs that were completely trashed on the tip, I managed to get a nice straight grab, then I spun it on and from there it went smooth and took care of the rest. I use transmission fluid for cutting, which is better than using motor oil or any spray lubricant. After all 8 studs were cut, I rinsed them off with brake cleaner, dried them off and gave them another coat of transmission fluid for storage. I am sure these dies will do many more cuts with no problem.

The hex shape allowed me to use this with a socket to restore threads on an exhaust flange stud. A few complete runs in and out did restore the threads but due to the stud hardness also damaged this die so it was essentially a one time use tool. Still was easier and less time than replacing this particular exhaust stud. Would buy again.

I only knew of round dies but ordered this and it fit perfect in a socket for a tight space.
