Always have overwatered my houseplants not knowing when they needed to be watered - finger in the soil test never worked well for me. With this device, I know exactly when my plants need watering. This water meter is a simple, sturdy, well made piece of equipment. Easy to use and accurate - GREAT!

I have a wide variety of plants at home with different watering needs. This meter helps me keep track of who's thirsty. I like the long length of the stick, since some of my plants have roots that I know are deep in the soil and you want to measure where the plant is sucking in the water, not right below the surface. The display is easy to read and gives you an instant readout. I would normally give this product 5 stars for ease of use, but this one is in fact my second one because my first one malfunctioned on me eventually. They don't last forever. However, at the low price that you're paying, it's just a matter of knowing you will have to replace it with a new one eventually. I'm generally happy with that tradeoff.

I gave this gift to several friends to help them keep their plants alive. This gauge is easy to read. It allows you to see if plant roots are wet or dry. It works well.

The meter worked well for about 2 months and then just stopped working. It says dry (value 1) no matter how wet the soil is. I did not drop it or leave out in the rain. I would look for a more durable and well built meter. One star seems right as it did seems to measure as I expected for a short while and if I got a few years out of it, I would be satisfied given its cost.UPDATE: The seller offered me a refund. So I used the refund to buy another one to give them another chance due to their kind gesture. I also raised the rating from 1 star to 3 due to their customer support. I just created a reminder on my phone for 6 months to come back and let you all know if it has lasted so far. If if lasts a year, I will up my rating as for the cost, you really can't expect it to last 10 years given it has electronics inside.

I now can check my indoor plants so I don’t over water/them as well as checking if two dry. Great gadget certainly worth the money.

Why didn't I buy this before ? It's cheap and it works instantly with no batteries ! Like a lot of people I kept sticking my finger in the earth to check if it was dry or even worse, going by looks. Bad mistake. With this thing I realized that some of my plants needed water (red zone when the meter is planted). Even if you think the earth is still humid, it might be dry at root level. Take the guess work out and just use this. Plant it a few inches as close to the plant stem as you can and watch the reading after 10-20 seconds. Plant it in 2 places to confirm the reading. It showed me that some of my plants were watered too frequently as well (blue level). I like the fact that this model has a hanging hole on top. I hang it on a nail in a cupboard when not in use. I think this little gizmo will save some of my plants and that's definitely worth the 20$ expense.
