I have been using Dura-Gold brand abrasives for a couple of years now and they never let me down. Every bit as good as the brand name big box store varieties available locally but much more budget friendly. When I got the opportunity to try these Hook and Loop Flex Sanding Sponges I jumped at the chance to see if they are as good as the rest of the Dura-Gold lineup. Short answer – they absolutely are.First off, I am not a big fan of abrasive “assortment” packs. Too often they either include items of limited utility or skip necessary grits. However, this assortment of sanding sponges hits all the right spots. A perfect variety from fairly course (320) all the way up to extra fine (2500) for the homeowner, crafter, DIYer, weekend garage warrior to have on hand without investing a ton of $$ in dead inventory.Priced at about 75 cents per pad as I am writing this in February 2025, they are in HF territory but with better quality. All the grits are available in individual packs of 20 at the same cost per pad. If you have a specific need this may be a better bet for you.The abrasive material is aluminum oxide which is general purpose for wood, metal, and plastics.My winter project has been refinishing some 40+ year old Buick cast aluminum turbine wheels for my 1967 Olds Delta 88. Because they are thin and flexible, these sanding sponges have been perfect for getting into the limited area between the turbine vanes and attacking the corrosion. Have used both dry and wet with equal performance. Although they are hook and loop, I have been using them without any backing pad which allows me to follow the contours of what I am sanding. They can be easily cut with scissors to conform to what you may need to fit in close quarters or odd shapes. Probably have about three – four hours of sanding time in on these pads so far with no complaints.Did not notice any tendency to clog. Washable so they are reusable until the abrasive gives out.Because they are cut from larger sheets, some of the pads are missing part of the grit marking. I took a sharpie and wrote them on to make it easier to keep track of what I have on hand.Good product at a good price. Would have no reservations about purchasing when these are done. Love to have the variety of grits around for small body repair and paint correction. Well packaged and a nice selection this is a great set for a do it yourself-er or to refine touch up paint jobs and small body repair jobs. Easy way to store an excellent selection of abrasives

These pads work well for the most part, but the finer grits do clog easily. Removed the stubble after raising grains easily.I used the 320, 400, 600 & 800 grits for prepping a butcher block countertop, with beeswax and mineral oil in between each sanding. These were able to smooth each layer quite well. The result was very smooth.

Dura-Gold has become my go to on sanding sponges and tack cloth. I jumped on this assortment and was not disappointed. They are well labelled ( which a lot of off-brand are not) and they clean up nicely. I mainly use them to sand 3d parts, but I'm sure they would work well under any circumstance. Would highly recommend!

The sponges are durable and versatile for wet or dry sanding. I’m glad I ordered the assorted package. The range of grits enabled me to refinish the handle of a worn chair and restore the transparency of the frosted headlight covers of my truck. Afterwards, each of the sponges cleaned up nicely with water and dish washing detergent.Used the 320, 400, and 600 grit sponges for refinishing the handle of a worn table chair. Each sponge had the necessary flexibility to accommodate the contours of the handle and the rounded edges of the legs nicely. To complete the work, I coated the surfaces with Restore-A-Finish.As for the finer grits, the 800, 1000, 1500, 2000, and 2500 … with sprayed water … were used to hand refinish the frosted hard plastic cover of a car headlight to restore its transparency. I used neoprene gloves along with a hook-and-loop sanding block. When I finished the sanding, I applied a final coating of clear sealant (plastic headlight protectant) to finish the headlight cover just like new.For only $13 the assorted Variety Pack was well worth the investment. I still had sponges left over.
