Effortlessly cuts through the hard broiled eggs easy to use and it was very costly effective.

I have not been able to find a blade egg slicer. They seem to be all wire slicers now and the wires bend rendering the slicer useless. The base on this unit is noticeably sturdier and heavier than the plastic slicers so it seems more durable. The reason for 4 stars vs. 5 is the sturdiness comes at a cost in terms of size. This is a little larger than the plastic egg slicers so it takes up a little more drawer space.

An egg slicer is a new appliance that has recently entered my life and, I swear, it falls completely into the category of "Things you don't think you'll ever need because you can just use a knife but, once you use it, you'll wonder how you did without it!".This is the second of the egg slicers I've picked up recently and, of the two, it is -much- heavier and more robust. Whereas I had some qualms about my original egg slicer being able to handle anything other than boiled eggs, THIS one I'm confident will handle other foods as well, such as fresh mushrooms and slightly underrripe fruit. I get my best results by holding the slicer upside-down, after placing the food in it, so the slices fall neatly down into the dish below. The fact that I can use this to slice under-ripe or fresher foods is fantastic news since anything you slice starts to go bad at a faster rate than the unsliced food does. This is a slicer that I can actually use to prep ingredients ahead of time, rather than as I cook or right before I eat!As with my other egg slicer, this one runs through the dishwasher with no problems whatsoever. Because I don't wash a lot of dishes, I have a small, portable, countertop dishwasher that I use where the entire machine is designated as the "top rack" in the dishwasher because there's no exposed heating element, and it automatically dries everything with a fan afterwards, so that may be a factor in why I don't have trouble cleaning it with a dishwasher. (The product page says you can't use one.) I hate having to clean up fiddly appliances, so I appreciate this even more for the fact that it's so easy to use and wash up afterwards.

This is much tougher than ones I have owned in the past. I have had ones that the cutting wires would bend or snap when trying to cut mushrooms or even canned olives. But this one has no problem with that at all.The holder is large and deep. I have never had one this large and deep before. Plus the wires go a few millimeters past the base which enables the food to get fully cut.I love that they used real metal instead of plastic, too. I have had no rusting issues with it either.

since our daughter took our slicer we up graded to this one, it is made out of a sturdy metal with stainless steel wires. It will slice even a jumbo sized egg with no trouble.

Be ready to break a few eggs to get use to the pressure you need to puncture your eggs, other than that it works good.

Something happened to people in the 50s and 60s that they all bought metal egg slicers. By the time we got to the 70s the quality waned, and now it's strange to find one in the average kitchen. This one is a throw-back to the earlier slicers. It's well built, sufficiently large for a standard egg in North America. There's something really comfy about having nicely slice hard boiled eggs.

I ordered this to replace a stainless steel/zinc egg slicer that I've only had for 8 months when it started to pit and get gnarly looking. I did use the upper tray of the dishwasher as recommended, yet here we are... getting a replacement when it should have lasted for years. When this aluminum egg slicer arrived I was taken aback because of its size. It's nearly twice the length of my old slicer. The part where you place the egg is standard size, just the lever is much longer. After looking at my old slicer which was silver and pitted, I was comforted to see the smooth black exterior of this slicer. The description indicates that it should not be put in the dishwasher, only hand washed. So, I washed it by hand and used it on a few eggs and it sliced just fine as expected. The wires are nice and tight. I have not tried it on fruits yet.The larger size of this item makes it more difficult to find a place to store. I kept my old, smaller one in a drawer of kitchen odds and ends, but this just takes up too much room in that narrow drawer. I can't quite figure out the advantage of having a larger outer size when where you place the egg is standard. Better balance? Better leverage? I just think it's overkill for an egg slicer.Overall, it slices eggs well and that satisfies my needs; however, I just need to find a new place to store it.
