This magnetic field chamber is great for the classroom. Extremely useful for students to visualize magnetic fields in three dimensions, instead of the usual two dimensional of most iron filings field visualizers. Perfect for demonstrations or to pass around the class for hands on experience. Iron filings sealed inside chamber so no worrying about loose filings.
Insert a bar magnet, up to three-quarters of an inch in diameter, into the inner chamber and view the three dimensional magnetic field lines appear before your very eyes.
Dimensions 3.625" Tall by 2.3125" outside diameter, 0.625" inside diameter. Magnet is included.

See the pictures. The magnet is too small and too weak to demonstrate what is demonstrated in the photo supplied in the Amazon Product description. In fact, if you use the zoom window tool, you'll see appears to be larger red flat bar magnet on one end - that's how that photo was achieved. However, from reading the reviews, I knew I was getting what you see in the photos I took and posted in this review. Why? Because I have a custom, and pricey, Neodymium Rod Magnet, 3.625"L x 0.620â€W, with a grade of 45 and pull of ~73-lbs., from Magnetshop dot com being made for it. Why? It's an excellent teaching tool to demo the magnetic field. Hence, 2 stars for the housing with iron filings, you won't find that anywhere else unless you make it yourself.

The magnet provided with the item is completely inadequate. If I want it to work as advertised, I will need to buy another magnet. Forget it.

Really fun desk toy and good for demonstrations, I still have it after years of use. Didn't really change much. Plastic held up and never broke when it fell and hit the ground many times
