Many replacement motors I looked at were plastic housed DC motors. This is a very sturdy metal housed AC motor. It is a perfect fit replacement in a bathroom exhaust fan unit that is at least 50 years old. Much easier and far more economical than replacing the whole unit due to todays standard size units not matching the size of this old original. This motor along with the new squirrel cage fan I purchased with it has breathed new life into the original unit. Quiet and powerful. I'm extremely pleased.

Forty year old condo has original Broan/Nutone bathroom light/exhaust fan. Motor barely spooled up. To avoid replacing the whole fixture, got this motor instead. It has now been in use for over 3 years and works well. About 10 years earlier, I replaced the other bathroom's fan motor (same style). Be sure to order a motor based on fixture model. This was an exact replacement and saved a lot of effort, money, and mess versus replacing the whole fixture which would not be easy. A new one might have required tweaking the size of the hole in the ceiling. It's great to keep old appliances going.RE: noise level rating - the motor is very quiet, but the old squirrel cage fan itself sounds, well, like a bath fan.

It's a much older style motor so if you're having transformer issues or just have an old one that makes motors in your house give off that annoying 60hz hum, this one is going to hum worse. But it's a solid motor, starts fast enough but not too fast. Shaft is the exact correct length and diameter. If you have an old style Nutone 8832-8833, this is the exact replacement motor and it feels like it will last for another 50 years.

Installed two units in matching NuTone 8662 bathroom exhaust fans. Shaft length was not an issue on the NuTone housing (installed the fan blade with the motor shaft slightly proud after dry fit). The motor quality seems decent and I'm satisfied with the result since completely removing the old housings would be too much work.

I did not want to go through the hassle of finding a similar sized bathroom fan when the motor went out. So I decided that finding a new fan blade and motor will be my best choice. This worked as a replacement motor for my Nutone 8832/8832SA/8833 bathroom ceiling fan. Very simple swap of the part (note: keep track of the few screws and orientation of the assembly to make it easier). I also replace the fan blade since I was up there and the original one was showing signs of wear around the spindle location. This new motor work great so far! It does seem a little loud when starting, but then eases to a normal volume level. Also used with this motor: NuTone 5901A000 Fan Blower Wheel Assembly.

Short Story:It's a cheaply made motor that vibrates when mounted in a vertically installed position. It's so loud that you'll take it out and find away to install an inline duct fan in your attic instead.Like the other reviewers, the shaft is too long despite the post saying it is a replacement for the Nutone 8831.Also, IT WAS LOUD! Worse than the old one that I took off.The noise come from the fact that it vibrates (loosening the screws helps reduce the noise, but not enough and that is not safe). The fan was vibrating so much that the wall adjacent to the fan was vibrating about 18" down from the ceiling.DIAGNOSIS: Either the windings are unbalanced and/or the motor shaft's bearings are too loose. As a result, when installed in a perfectly vertical orientation, it vibrates. When I "benchtest" by holding it in my hand, it doesn't vibrate when on an angle or horizontal. But in the installed perfectly vertical position (when it spins like a toy top on a vertical axis), it vibrates.

Très cher, mais j'en avais besoin, celui en place ne fonctionnait plus. En plus d'être cher, il est plus bruyant que l'original.
