Truck is stock and this kit made a big improvement in reducing vibration at steering wheel. It’s not overly rigid. Feels good.

I installed this kit on my '06 Toyota Tundra SR5 Crew Cab with V8 and 2WD. As 1st generation Tundras and Sequoias age the rubber bushings in the steering rack mounts starts to deteriorate and get soft. This happens gradually and over time the steering will begin to feel loose and vague. These polyurethane bushings are not hard plastic. They are meant to simulate the hardness of the rubber bushings when they were new. I didn't notice any additional road noise in the truck or additional vibrations transmitted through the steering wheel following installation. I installed them 6 months ago and have driven 6K-7K miles since. They tightened up the steering so at highway speeds it doesn't drift.Getting the old rubber bushings out was a bit more difficult than expected but I persuaded them and they departed the steering rack. This job can be done on the vehicle without complete removal of the rack. You will need to put the front end on jack stands high enough to get the front tires off the ground. Several of the attachment bolts thread into welded nuts. Don't try to remove the welded nuts, remove the bolts instead. Be sure and follow the instructions carefully in regards to the large metal washer. It is actually a spacer and is important. Coat the new bushings with some synthetic grease to help get them in the rack.This DIY project was definitely worth the expense, time and effort.

If your steering wanders on the freeway, your rack bushings are most likely shot especially if youve never changed them out before. These wont deteriorate like rubber bushings and are quiet as longs as you grease them properly. Install takes a lot of muscle work but is straight forward with the help of youtube. Would suggest having a good size pry bar, large channel locks, new razor blades, and grease. Install took about an hour for me and a buddy on my 2002 sequoia. These are harder than rubber so the rack is tougher to put back. But that just means it is being held that much better vs rubber.

Installed this steering rack bushing kit in a 2002 Toyota Tundra. Everything went together as expected. There is an excellent youtube video for this job. Search for "2000-2006 TUNDRA STEERING RACK BUSHING REPLACEMENT - DIY". That is not my video. The video shows a Total Chaos kit being installed. Best I can tell, this Energy Suspension kit is the exact same. One additional tip... To remove the original horizontal bushing after cutting the lip off as shown in the video, I drove a small Phillips screwdriver between the bushing and case in four locations squirting WD-40 in each time. That got the WD-40 to the other side. I then rotated the bushing 360 deg with channel locks to completely coat the inside with lubricant. Was then able to easily pound the bushing out with a mallet and screwdriver. The vertical bushing is about half the size and easy to remove.
