I've played orchestral violin for 20 years. Over time, I've tried a variety of shoulder rests - Kun, Wolf, sponge, kidney - you name it. The consensus now is that a wood shoulder rest improves the overall sound of the instrument - I tend to agree. The violin becomes warmer with added overtone spectrum. This shoulder rest is similar in shape to Kun - as the pictures show, it is fairly lean which makes it lightweight. It appears to be well made and is both height and width adjustable. And the price is affordable! Incredible value. Very pleased.

I bought this to try with my wood violin, since my favorite shoulder rest (35 year old Wolf) needs to have the grips replaced. I have been using a Kun shoulder rest that I usually keep on my carbon fiber violin, but I don't really like much. This wood shoulder rest seems to dampen the tone of my wood violin some, which is a little weird. The Kun sounds better. Also, this wood shoulder rest does not fold up or have rotating legs to fit it better into a case. Since I keep my wood violin cased, and my carbon fiber violin out, I'll be using this wood shoulder rest on the CF violin. On the plus side, this shoulder rest is more comfortable than the Kun...no sharp plastic edges to dig into my chest while I'm playing.

The viola shoulder rest is a lifesaver for young musicians, providing both comfort and stability during practice sessions. Its light color adds a touch of elegance, while its reliable hold ensures that your kiddo can focus on perfecting their skills without worrying about discomfort or slippage. This accessory is exactly what budding violists need to enhance their playing experience and encourage long hours of practice. Overall, it's a fantastic investment for any young musician looking to excel in their craft.

I feel like this would be good for a beginner, but overall this should rest seems pretty low quality. I’ve placed it next to the shoulder rest I regularly use. You can see this one has a shorter, lower quality pad.
