This brush was everything I hoped it would be and then some. The brush handle is a lovely wood with delicately engraved patterns below the golden color ferrule. The handle is smooth and light while feeling sturdy. The natural Kolinsky-Tajmyr hairs are super soft and have three different lengths. The brush holds so much more water and pigment than the synthetic Escoda Kolinsky brush, the Versatil.Even though it’s a natural hair brush it still has some firmness and shape retention. It’s less than the synthetic fibers, but it’s a bit firmer than other natural fiber brushes I’ve used.I’m very happy with my Escoda brushes, and this brush in particular. I look forward to adding more to my collection in the future.

This is my first kolinsky brush & I love it! It has a very lovely naturally tapered tip, that comes to a very nice point. It has just the right amount of snap: less than a synthetic, but more than squirrel. It holds a good amount of pigment & water for a size 8.I typically use larger brushes, but didn't want to break the bank until I knew it was worth it, so I got this size 8 with my Amazon rewards points. I did a lot of research before I decided that Escoda would probably be the best fit for me, & like all of their others that I have, this one is amazing too! I'll be watching for deals to get a few in larger sizes.

I came back to get the size 8 Reserva because I love the size 2 I already have!I got some Escoda and Da Vinci brushes to compare.(Escoda brushes: Reserva, Prado, Versatil. Da Vinci: Maestro, Marder, Harbin, Nova)Here's what I think so far:The Reserva has an excellent point that doesn't need much coaxing to keep the tip. The shape and snap are excellent! The Reserva was the easiest to use out of the Kolinsky brushes that I have.I LOVE Escoda brushes! The Versatil I got from Amazon came with a strand wrapped around the ferrule; it was stuck that way underneath the protector cap! I took it off and rinsed it; the strand was bent in half and it stuck out at a 45° angle. I went to grab the brush 40 minutes later and to my surprise, it was completely normal! I couldn't identify the damaged strand. Now that's Escoda's magical brush memory!

It's such a beautifully made brush was so excited to get it, but I am so disappointed at the fact that the point splays out and does not hold! When wet it looks like it will hold the point but the minute you start to paint it is all over. I have soaked it in warm water and now going to put a conditioner on it to dry and see if that makes a difference. I am not sure why everyone else says how great it holds a point... not sure. First pic the brush is dry, second its damp and third completely wet. Never a point always stray hairs.. basically unusable and its a $50 brush!

I liked the overall finish of this brush- it's very luxurious in the hand. However, it doesn't hold a sharp point at all- It almost handles like a mop compared to my Silver Brush rounds of the same size. I'm not thrilled with it but returning one brush is a hassle.

I’m new to watercolor and I bought economical supplies to begin this journey. After about 7 months in I thought I could splurge because I am loving this medium and my interest is only growing so let’s just see what all the fuss is. Are you kidding me!!!!! ? Superb tool and there is no comparison to the economy brushes. Although I do still use them for all kinds of things ( color mixing, color lifting etc..) this brush is my new FAVORITE.Get a good brush cleaner to keep your investments in good working order. I am IN LOVE w this brush ! 😍🥰😍

I originally got turned on to Escoda brushes as an Alternative to my W&N Series 7 brushes. I've tried several sizes and came to the same conclusion: They work much better for watercolor thank ink work.I'm a comic book inker, and with the decline in quality of brushes these days, I'm always on the search for a new brush. However, the way Escoda shapes their bristles is different than W&N and Raphael. The bristles are a little more contoured to the point with shorter hairs on the outer circumference than towards the center of the point. This causes a line which is not as clean as it could be when using highly opaque medium (such as Ink). However, my girlfriend is a water color artist, and upon testing the brush and was pleased with the results. So this brush belongs to her now.I will say the brush holds liquids well and has excellent snap. So if you are buying this brush for watercolor (as I imagine most are), then you should expect good results. However, if you intend on using it for Ink - I would recommend looking at Davinci or the tried and true W&N Series 7 or Raphael 8404.

I have been using da Vinci series 10, 11 and 35 for some time and decided to give Escoda a try since quality control issues have been more and more with da Vinci brand which is hit or miss when ordering from Amazon. The Escoda brush is lovely, it glides along the paper so effortlessly and smooth. It is smaller than the da Vinci size 8 however I think has a slightly smoother feel about it. It is the first of many to come and really enjoy this brush. Lastly I have noticed that between da Vinci and this Escoda brush after using for a few weeks is that da vincis bristles when dry will splay more than Escoda. In other words Escoda when dry is not as fluffy as the da Vinci brush and the hairs stay straight, this leads me to think this is the reason why I have a slightly smoother glide across the paper vs the DaVinci.

Arrived a little frayed, but thankfully I know how to fix slightly damaged brushes.Love the precision of Escoda brushes, this is no exception.I simply wish it would have come packaged a little more securely.

5 stars across the board.I have spent as much on a pair of boots but—this is an investment in "tools"—and they both will outlive me! ♥

My low rating isn't to do with the brush itself, but that the brush PICTURED is not the brush that you get. From the reviews and the picture I got the impression that this was a larger round brush. But it is TINY. A brush for the smallest possible details. Even in the description the "#5" doesnt sound like it would be small.I would appreciate the full name of the brush visible and the actual brush being sold pictured. Very deceiving and I'm disappointed because I may never use it.
