This worked for making extra holes in an 18g stainless steel sink. I drilled 4 holes total of 1 3/8" size (standard hole size for kitchen faucets & items). First, I made a circle wall of plumbers putty around the area to hold oil (can also use clay), put some motor oil in the circle since I didn't have any cutting oil. It worked well, I had to angle it slightly left and right as I drilled down to get it to cut through but it made nice clean holes. Oil is a must to keep the bit cool so it will last longer and cut properly, put some paper towels under sink to catch the oil when you drill through. I also made a small 1/8" pilot hole with a different drill bit as a guide for the main 1 3/8" bit, as it will keep the main bit drill bit from wearing out. New Cut-out is very sharp, recommend filing the new hole with a half round file to remove all sharp edges/burrs (file both sides top and bottom of hole). It will prevent you from getting cut while handling, and also prevents any rubber washers and such on new faucets/ air gaps, etc., from being sliced/cut by the too sharp edges and burrs of the new hole.I don't know how long this drill bit will last, but I got 4 holes so far and it looks good enough to cut more.

I bought this to cut a hole in a 304 stainless steel diesel tank on a boat, in order to install a fuel sending unit. Some people have reviewed that the teeth break off - this is because they're letting the saw bite unevenly and the tooth grabs the material and chips. You need to drill slowly and with steady pressure, holding the drill firmly with both hands. I used some light cutting oil to lubricate the saw, and it cut a clean hole with very little burr remaining on the stainless.

This is an awesome bit that delivers smooth, clean cutting at a great price. This bit cut through 18 gauge SS Sink for a RO System with ease. I used a cordless without any downward pressure other than the weight of drill, kept a spray bottle of water for constant mist and done in 7 minutes. Great results.

Pilot bit is the only reason this didnt get 5 stars from me. Had to punch 12 19mm holes in 16ga stainless. First the bad, started out by drilling pilot holes to make it easier when changing to the tool. First hole and the pilot snapped off. Now for the good, after pulling the pilot and reshaping it on the grinder and drilling pilot holes out the size of the pilot on the tool this little tool went to work and took care of business. 12holes later and the teeth on the cutter look like new and it had performed admirably. Biggest thing to keep in mind, keep the speed slow and just enough pressure to let the cutter do the job without forcing it. Also, use a cutting fluid (I use rapid tap) when cutting a harder material. For the price I would definitely buy it again, but I would HIGHLY recommend drilling the initial hole out to the size of the pilot on the cutter and then just using it as a centering pin, rather than depending on it to cut the pilot hole in harder materials.

I bought this saw to make 32 holes in 3/16" powder-coated mild steel. Mounted on a drill press and using plenty of tapping fluid, this bit made short work of the task. I was expecting this to be a use once and toss after powering through the project, but I was pleasantly surprised by the bit. Even after letting it get probably too hot a few times, it still cuts well. I'll put it away and keep for another project at some point in the future.

We needed a hole for a hot water dispenser spigot in a new stainless kitchen sink basin. I bought this hole cutter based on other recommendations I saw, and I'm glad I spent a few extra bucks for it, because it worked perfectly. Here's all the different bits of advice we found helpful from our own personal experience with metal cutting, along with elements I culled from other reviews.* Use machine oil. We applied enough Forney 20857 Tap Magic Industrial Pro Cutting Fluid to keep a small puddle/light coating on the entire work surface and edges of the bit and hole saw while drilling.*Wear goggles and gloves - metal shavings are not something you want to mess around with. You'll also want a decent supply of paper towels or disposable rags to help you clean up as you go.*Set a rag beneath your hole-boring point to catch metal shavings and extra oil. This was a very clever tip that helped with cleanup.*To get the hole started, we used a Phillips screwdriver to bang a minor divot in the centerpoint of our projected hole; this kept the bit from wandering.*Keep the speed slow. We used a 20V Dewalt cordless drill with the gearing set to 1 (lowest speed, highest torque). We drilled at about 3/4 speed to get the center bit through the metal, then kept the speed below half a trigger pull once the hole saw was in contact with the metal. We didn't apply a lot of force to the bit, and stopped every so often to wipe away extra shavings. We then re-applied oil to keep it all moving smoothly. One of the reviews we read said to make sure the metal didn't heat up, as it would stiffen the metal and make it harder to drill through. Another said to make sure there wasn't any smoking, as it meant there was too much friction. We didn't encounter either problem with the steps we took as listed above. It took about a minute-plus to punch in the center hole, and another seven minutes or so to cut the hole. The final product was a perfectly smooth hole. The teeth of the hole saw are still perfectly sharp.

These hole saws are not real cheap, but they make the most perfectly round and accurate hole in metal that I have ever seen. If you are used to using the cheap, wobbly, and inaccurate hole saws and want exact sized holes (at least in metal) then you NEED to give these a try. They are NOT for cutting holes in really thick metal (anything over 3/16" or so) but for thinner stuff they are Awesome!

I have some 45mm A to cut in 10mm rolled steel. Previously I have used the traditional toothed hole saw, they are slow, blunt frequently and need replacing after a few holes.I thought I would try one of these. It is quite a bit more expensive than a traditional hole cutter, but time is money. On inspection it looks well made with sharp teeth with plenty of potential wear/sharpening ability.Having mounted it in the pillar drill it was apparent as soon as I began to cut that this was so much better than anything I had used before. The swarf came off as chunks of metal and it cut really quickly. You definitely need eye protection with this, because the razor sharp chunks of swarf go everywhere. I cut a hole in 10mm steel in a couple of minutes. It would probably do it quicker, but in prefer to be gentle with it. This still represents a considerable time saving compared to a traditional hole saw that might take 10mins or more.I used cutting oil, but it needed a less than normal. After 3 or 4 holes in 10mm steel I noticed that the cutter still cut, but the swarf became finer slivers of metal. It still cut well but suggest it may need sharpening soon.In summary I would not bother with a carbide cutter if I was just cutting a few holes in thin material, but for repeat holes or thicker steel it’s will worth having.

Bought to make three holes in a 4mm steel sheet. It went through like a hot knife through butter (with plenty of coolant oil helping it along). Blade is still as sharp as new, and sure it will make many more holes without problem.
