Came via UPS wrapped in bubblewrap and inside a box with the large bubble wrapping.I tested the alcohol hydrometer against _known_ proofs using 190 Everclear and 80 proof Vodka. It was very close in both proofing and alcohol content. It was about 4 proof points low on the Everclear (186), assuming my Everclear was really 190 proof.I tested on some moonshine and it read what I expected based on 'visual beading' of the heads, hearts and tails.ATTENTION: This is not for determining alcohol content in your mash before distillation!Pro's:Easy to read scale for proofing and alcohol content.Comes packed in a plastic protective boxInsert explains testing alcohol at different room temperatures and how much to add or subtract from reading.Con's:Don't really see any at this time. It is fragile for sure so if you are a bit clumsy, buy two.P.S. Does not come with a testing tube so you will need to get one. Get a GLASS one.On a related note:I used the PLASTIC testing tube that came with my Triple scale hydrometer (for mash) that I also purchased here at Amazon. Seems to work just fine. It is not for alcohol that hasn't been distilled. IT WILL NOT WORK FOR UNDISTILLED ALCOHOL. It will not read alcohol for beer etc.

I was wondering why my hydrometer kept sinking to the bottom without measuring the ABV in my mash. I had to brush the cobwebs out of my distilling center of my brain in order to remember what I was doing.Proof and Traile is for measuring alcohol content or ABV but I was using the old " Tripple Scale" Hydrometer by mistake. It only measure specific gravity before the distillation process. ... I think...Any hoo. I am rolling now and I have my permit. Old boring me. I don't even drink beer much less spirits.In closing get this "proof and traile" alcohol meter / hydrometer to measure your alcohol content.

I wish I had known to buy this before I began distilling my alcohol, because the only other hydrometer I had was for the mash, which is used BEFORE you distill. Now I know! If you want to make whisky, buy this for your distilling and get a different one for the mash that can do lower readings. This one is only for higher readings and it doesn't come with a test tube so make sure you get a tube before you buy this.

Tested this in a big bottle of Listerine, then in a bottle of White Lightening. Listerine is 29.6% alcohol and the other 95% percent. Both, accurate. I would suggest getting some kind of long test tube to test fluids in. In a pinch, I used a fluted flower vase. I made hand sanitizer and am confindent my results were accurate, because I tested with controls.

I don't know.I put some whisky in a tube, it properly showed the alcohol degrees.I have some home-made syrup (sour cherries + sugar), added on liter of 90% alcohol to make some schnaps. When i tried to measure, it showed as it were WATER? How can i measure the alcihol content if I KNOW that the syrup + alcohol should have shown me something WAAAAY ELSE than water (zero alcohol). Trust me, IT IS NOT WATER.So, while "Easy to read", "Packaging" is really good, the "Accuracy" (most important) is nit what i expected.
