OK, there are some crappy paper gaskets out there that make you want to scream. This is not one of them. First, Fel-Pro has to be an industry leader at this point, they carry several variants of the same filter for older Jeeps (as well as every other make/model of vehicle). This particular gasket is perfect if your block housing or your thermostat housing is marred or pitted and you can only get it 'pretty smooth' vice machined-smooth. I love this version as a spare on the trail in case you need a quick fix. The standard blue version is always on-hand in the shop.What makes this version such a great trail spare? The additional sealant lines embedded into the gasket help seal when conditions are sketchy and you don't have time to sit there and watch gasket maker goo cure.In my experience on 80's, 90's and 20's+ Jeeps, you are gonna need to tackle the thermostat housing on your own terms or on the Jeep God's terms. Be ready and keep this Fel-Pro gasket in the glove compartment.

I purchased this gasket while reading someone purchased a thermostat housing and the promised gasket was not included. Fortunately, the thermostat housing I purchased to upgrade and replace with the thermostat had a new gasket with it so I used the pro gasket instead because it was higher quality and no need for our TV silicone, if you’re changing your thermostat housing gasket I suggest you spend the extra six dollars for a new thermostat inspect your hoses, serpentine belt, water pump and if that happens, I also strongly advised to flush your radiator system heater, core and purchase the proper funnel to put in the radiator at the filler nozzle so the air can properly be bled so the radiator is not air bound stall on a 1998 Jeep Cherokee classic 4.0

Doesn’t stick, you will need to put some thermostat housing gasket maker on both sides. Put on first side and make sure it sticks. Then fully cover the gasket side facing the engine block, allow 30 minutes to set up a little. Install as usual. 13ft lbs with a torque wrench if you’re using the 4.0l str8 6 on jeep cherokees. Beware when torquing, go slowly, one half turn on each bolt at a time until snug and clicks on wrench. Do not over tighten. If it leaks with the RTV you may have to move the thermostat since sometimes it wedges between the housing at the block. If this happens take off and start again.
