I have to start this out deep-We lost a friend last year due to a fire in his home. The fire had traveled up the side of his house (where his room was) and around the front, through the door and right up the stairs. It happened quick and without getting into all of the details, the fire investigator and police said that if he had a ladder by the window (opposite where the fire was) he would have survived. The news even did a segment on the fire, where they went into how important it is to have a ladder (ladders) like this in your upstairs rooms. So while this may seem like a 'luxury' item, it really is more like a necessity.I remember coming online after that happened to look for the escape ladders, but all I remember seeing were these massive, mid-evil looking metal things that looked like giant pool ladders and they were like $200! As soon as I saw this ladder, that barely takes up any space, I knew I was going to buy one, no matter what. When I saw the price though (at the time of purchase and this review only $45 PLUS a 25% off coupon!) I didn't just get one, I ordered 2- one for our room and one for my daughters room. You can't tell me that your life isn't worth $35!These arrived very quick, bundled together with a plastic tie and protected in a plastic bags.I immediately opened everything up and inspected the goods. These ladders are REALLY nice! They have some weight to them, but aren't so heavy that they can't be moved and deployed quick. The highly reflective, neon green flat 'rope' on the sides is super heavy duty, easy to grab and hold. I think if you took a hand saw to it, it would take you some serious time and effort before you actually made it through. Each of the ladder rungs are rock hard and unbreakable. (He will kill me if he sees this, but my 6'6", 240lb solid muscle husband tried to break one of the rungs by bending it. He failed) The rungs are covered in material, which is actually brilliant because they aren't slippery if they get wet and, heaven forbid you do have to use this in bear feet, that material makes for a friendlier stepping surface. Even the stitching is expertly done and super clean. Quality wise- This is IT! I knew I made the right choice! So we have the awesome ladders now, which roll up into a bundle that is easy to store (in an accessible spot without being in the way), but we didn't know how to use them. So, Friday night we had Family Fire Drill Day. What we were doing was, without a doubt, serious stuff that literally was the difference between living or dying, but we had to make it fun. We all took turns hooking the ladder to then dropping it from the window. Then, not in my plan, my large child (aka my husband) decided that we should scale down them too and of course he would show us how it was done. These were actually very sturdy and making it down really wasn't bad. My daughter thought it was great, as did the man child. The neighbors even wandered over to see what was going on in the nut...I mean fun house and inquire about our ladders. I'm just glad that we have them, they are easy to use and now we know exactly how to use them.I realize I made some jokes in this review, but I know that this isn't a joking matter. I know that all too well unfortunately. Our friend was a joker, so I threw some in here for him and so I could get through re-living that day again.I have already and will continue to recommend this ladder to everyone I possibly can. This isn't a cheep or flimsy unit- it is made to last. Even if I paid $50 or even $100, it would be money well spent and worth every penny!(And if you are asking why I didn't spend the $ before- the only ladders that I saw then had these huge bulky metal arms and there was no way I could have stored them away where they wouldn't be taking up a ton of space or getting in the way)

The construction quality on this escape ladder is very good - good enough that I would trust it with my life to get me from my window (2nd story) to the ground in an emergency. At about 32 feet long, it's probably long enough for a 3 story climb, but not much more. The average height of each story in the US is about 10 feet - so you can do the math pretty easy. That being said 2-3 stories and this ladder should be long enough. The window that we will be using this with is in a spare room so I've decided to build a dedicated window seat below our designated escape window. I'll be configuring the window seat to provide a storage place - and a permanent tethering attachment - for this ladder. That way, in an emergency all we will have to do it flip up the window seat lid and throw the ladder out the window. As with ANY emergency equipment, before use I will roll it out, check every seam and carabiner to make sure they all function as I think they should. I would not trust ANY piece of equipment without question to do a job on which my life (or that of a loved one) depends. I'll probably replace the carabiners with ones I know are of high quality steel for peace of mind.Overall, I am very happy with this emergency roll-out ladder.

The construction of this is great and I believe it could hold a person's weight no problem, and I love that it's bright green so that it can be easily spotted. What I don't love is that you have to purchase additional hooks to give it something to actually hook on to- this is useless without that. I also don't love that it doesn't come with an easy way to store it- I don't think a storage bag would be a good idea since time would be of the essence in a real fire but this needs like straps or something to keep it rolled up tight. It came in just a plastic Amazon bag but as with all emergency equipment, you should check it out for safety BEFORE the potential emergency so it's important to roll it out and look at it. Rolling it back up leaves it as kind of a pile of mess so now I need to buy hooks for it to hook on to AND velcro straps to keep it tidy.

I got this to use as an emergency fire safety ladder for our two story house. It will hook onto things but keep in mind, most bedrooms won’t have something strong enough to hook this onto. Especially when you are trying to get out quickly. We did order window hooks for this to clip onto and that solved the issue! Such a good thing to have if you have a two story home

Nice emergency ladder. We don't have a fire escape but we lag bolted to the studs just inside our second story window Worked well in my test.
