Doesn't work all. Simple task: plug my old external firewire hard drive into a modern Windows PC with USB. Tried multiple drives, multiple PCs. Nothing. The PC will not see the hard drive. The USB and Firewire standards are (unsurprisingly) apparently different in more ways than just routing a few wires between these two different plug shapes!

This worked only to the extent that I was able to plug an IEEE 1394 cable into one end and put the other into a USB port. Otherwise, these were completely worthless junk.

I hoped to use this to feed firewire output from an old video recorder into a USB port. It did not work on either a Mac or a Linux machine. Each machine saw a new USB device, but not one with any video capability.

USB and Firewire are not compatible standards. The inside of these adapters are nothing but glue and wires.
