Even irrespective of it's comparatively low price, this product is AWESOME. As someone for whom fishing is part of my livelihood, I feel that I must give this little gripper 5 stars. I took my first real surf-fishing trip in November of 2017 and used this grip, completely submerging in seawater on multiple occasions. I placed in a bag other than my fishing bag and only just found it and cleaned it today. After rinsing the sand off of it, I failed to find any signs of rust externally, and all the mechanisms still functioned well, although with a bit of grinding yet from some sand. A bit of oil to the gripper joints and to the scale shaft and she's ready for another season. Seriously, this thing is an Amazon Choice for a reason. Excellent feel, no buyers remorse, just be ready for the e-mails about leaving a review. I got a few when I first bought it 6 months ago and another one just a few minutes ago. Weird that they really want to get the follow-up, but nice that they probably realized I want to see how it holds up over a proper period before leaving a review. After using (and pretty severely abusing) this product, I can recommend this tool without any reservation. If the price seems too good to be true, it probably is. This is one of those rare instances where it's not.

The gripper (and scale) are stout and stainless. It is spring loaded. Grip is rubber and non-slip. It holds the fish firmly. The rubs to me are two- first if you have one hand on the line, fish or lure/bait it is difficult for me to operate (meaning open) the jaws to grab the fish’ lower lip, and second, unless you are Hercules, it is difficult to open the jaws far enough to easily grasp the lip of your catch, which in my case are “slot†stripers or slightly better or large bluefish. It wasn’t expensive and with those caveats, I will continue to use it, but admittedly, because I lost my el cheapo Cabelas red plastic one which was easier for me to use. I feel bad to dump on it but that is my experience.

Works ok for weighing fish. The scale is small and you need to estimate.

You can spend 10 times the price for a better fish gripper. The scale might be more accurate than this one...who knows? It'll be a little easier to read. But does that make it worth 10 times the price of this one?How often do you actually weigh and measure a fish? Both grip your fish the same way. This one looks, feels and functions very well, and I think either one would sink to the bottom of the ocean quickly if you happen to drop it. So I'll take the one for 1/10 the price.
