This step drill bit is a great tool in my toolbox! It is not a tool I use on every project, but it is so handy when I don't know exactly what size hole I need. I love being able to start small and step up without having to continually switch bits or worry about making the hole too big.The bit itself is sharp, long-lasting, and cuts nicely on aluminum, wood, plastic, and even metal. The four spiral flutes cut cleanly, and the 1/4" shank fits firmly in my drill. A sure addition to any DIYer's or pro's toolset!

These didn't last long. Good for emergency only, not a daily tool.

This Four Spiral Flute Step Drill Bit is an excellent addition to any tool kit! The HSS construction ensures durability, and the four-flute design provides smooth, precise drilling with minimal burrs. The 19-step range from 3/16" to 1-3/8" makes it incredibly versatile, perfect for aluminum, wood, plastic, and even thin metal. The 1/4" shank fits securely in my drill, and the stepped design eliminates the need for multiple bits. It cuts cleanly and efficiently, making hole enlargement effortless. Highly recommended for DIYers and professionals alike!

Great for various holes that may need to be drilled. I've only used it with wood, and it seems to hold up very well. Doesn't have a lot of give to it at all. Hopefully it lasts a long time. Feels sturdy

I've put some "miles" on this step drill bit using it for at least half a dozen projects, including a big project building customized solar panel mounts for my boat, drilling many holes in mild steel sheet, aluminum angle and acrylic sheet. To this point the bit continues to perform flawlessly. I should note in metal I almost always first drill a 1/8" pilot hole with a twist bit starting with a centerpunch dimple especially when drilling with a hand held drill, as with all step bits, because I usually want to locate the hole very accurately and step bits in general are more inclined to wander a bit when starting, in my experience. Note I'm not saying this bit in particular tends to wander, in fact I really haven't tested the matter, I just like to start with a small diameter twist bit for metal work.I have not had occasion to use this bit drilling stainless steel sheet yet. I ordered the bit because, being M35 cobalt, it should handle stainless without wearing out too rapidly. Due to work hardening stainless tends to wear step bits out rather quickly, in my experience, although I always try to make the cuts rather aggressively to keep the tool edge cutting thereby minimizing the friction generated heat that causes work hardening in stainless steel. I'm not always successful at doing so hence in the past when I had to use a step bit with stainless I just assumed the bit was going to be expended to complete the job. I'll update this review after drilling stainless sheet with this cobalt bit if it falls short of, or exceeds, reasonable expectations.Bottom line, to date I'm impressed with this cobalt step drill bit's function and durability.

I build a lot of projects from aluminum and acrylic. These step bits easily cut through these materials, leaving a clean hole, and it even chamfers the top edge. The common sizes are clearly marked on the bits, making it easy to identify when the proper size has been reached. These are far less expensive than the name brand products but seem to cut equally well.
