I have been trying to find a reed that my daughter is happy with straight out of the package without trimming and shaving. With this reed, she can play the high and low range notes without doing anything to it.

I teach oboe to middle and high schools students, and the Fox standard reeds (green thread) are the best inexpensive oboe reeds for students I have found.Medium hard is the best reed strength for oboe players with more than a couple of months playing the instrument. I don't recommend any reeds softer than medium hard because soft reeds are too flat and the tips close too easily. Occasionally one of the Fox reeds is too hard/too open and must be scraped down, but they are consistently good enough for students.

My son said these are the best reeds he's used so far. They all break after a few weeks, so buy a few at a time.

An evenly shaped and functional reed, at first I thought it was imbalanced and a dud, even if usual quality control is adequate, then it turned out the oboe I was borrowing was in terrible shape. A bit expensive for a single reed, will be looking into making my own in the future.
