These shades are a perfect blend of style and functionality. I prefer to open my windows to let the natural light in as I work, however, my office window looks straight into my neighbor’s room. I thought this blind was the perfect solution for privacy while still letting the light through. I love that I can choose whether to open it at the bottom or top. These blinds are easy to install. However, I agree with the other reviews that the installation instructions aren’t descriptive and the printed pictures are hard to distinguish. I would recommend watching the installation video that can be found on the product page.

This review is mostly positive. The product itself is good for the money. The installation instructions are a little shaky, but if you’re capable of reasoning out how the shades function, it shouldn’t be too hard to make things work. My biggest complaint about these shades is that they ship them with self tapping metal screws. I don’t know about you, but as a finish carpenter I’ve yet to run into metal window trim. Those screws have about 1/4 the holding power in wood that the blinds probably need. I used a 1” GRK (t15 red bit) and they held fine. The plastic clips are a little flimsy. They really shouldn’t be under much duress in normal operation, but you can tell they’re not as hard as they should be. I’d suggest hiring a technical writer to re-evaluate your instruction sheet. They’re not that tough to install, but a regular person might have a heck of a time figuring it out. Overall it’s a good product for the price. Bring your own screws.

These are far and away the most economic way to have the clean and classic look of top down bottom up shades.I spent days scouring the web, big box stores, and local purveyors of window coverings. I had 10 windows to do, so a price difference of 10, 20, 30 dollars, or more per blind multiplied quickly. The were the best price. The instructions included are terrible, but there is a perfect video available on you tube by a guy named Casey. Amazon would not let me add the link, so just search frank goodman top down bottom up and you should be able to find it. Very clear and straightforward. My house was built in 1950, so the windows are not a common size, most are 28x49 (ish). No window is exactly the same size. For these, I purchased the 27x64. Just make sure you measure well before drilling the screws in. I like that the 27" wide cover the glass, but are comfortable in the frame so the shade does not have to resist the friction of being too tight. I did not want black out, so this worked just fine.Once you get the rhythm and install method down, install only takes about 10 minutes per shade.

I installed these type of blinds before, but these, complete nightmare!!! So many parts, you are all but assembling these blinds and instructions super confusing, impossible to follow. I had to watch YouTube video, to hang these …and even that took forever. Would I buy these again? Absolutely NOT!!!

Instructions really do NOT explain what you need do. It should state that you need the strings TIGHT! It's very basic in saying, place these things here and place those there and tie a knot here. Where that knot is placed is VERY important! It has to be tight for them to work!! The product is very nice and works well after you figure this information out! The first time I didn't get it tight enough and they wouldn't work right. THEN I started investigating and figured out the issue. Good quality for the price and yes they work well now.

It took longer time to put up. Directions are not great. I would like it if was labeled top or bottom and front. Clips kept making blinds pop out when adjusting. It's of for temporary blinds. I would not purchase it for permanent blinds. Price was reasonable. I will not purchase again.

Hard to install for me, I can’t tie a knot on the mark. Also, the cheap plastic bits break easily - don’t over tighten the screws or you’ll shatter the plastic bit. You also can’t reuse the blinds on a differ length window. I wish I wouldn’t have bought these, they were cheap, but took me twice as long to install.

First, TIPS ON INSTALLING:You have to get tension just right to match window height. Also, in order to have the blinds level the tension on each side has to match very closely. I strongly suggest putting a piece of masking tape on the bottom plastic strip with a mark exactly on the middle of the strip, then making sure the knots are always equidistant from that mark each time you adjust the knot positions. That will save you the frustration of getting the cord lengths to match. Also, have a helper to hold the collapsed blinds up as you tie the knots.Without tape and helper it took 15 minutes of frustration to get just right - constantly having the blinds slip, then not getting it level... With tape and helper it took only 2-3 minutes.I mounted them inside the window frame and it leaves ¼ inch open on top and bottom, plus any on side based on product width vs window width, so mount outside if that matters. It looks great and is true blackout. It provides surprisingly great insulation (space between it and window is adrastically different temperature than room). The only downside is the fiddly installation. This makes sense since you need to make it fit a wide range of different window heights.
