The one thing this stud finder isn't very good at is finding the precise edge of a stud, which is sometimes important. What it excells at is very quickly finding the approximate center, which is ideal for drywall and baseboard / trim installation. It doesn't need to calibrate, is easy to use one handed, and very quickly lets you know where you can drive screws or shoot brads. For installing shelving or tipover brackets I prefer an edge-finding model so I know what my wiggle room is, but I will always choose this one for all tasks where I just need to know the rough center quickly.

I was looking for the smallest stud finder that I could find to fit into the tool bag. There aren't a lot of choices in this area. A lot of the competition for this item are no-name or knock off products that all look the same with the same features, but cost different amounts of money. This stud finder is the smallest that I came across, and after using it a few times, I'm glad I bought it. This stud finder tracks the stud in the wall with its LEDs which is a neat feature for 1. something this compact and 2. something at this price point. It takes (2) AAA batteries, easy enough to replace in a hurry. And yes, it is small enough to stay in the tool bag. Its footprint is 4"x3.5" and is about 1.5" tall.If I had to find one negative quality about this product, it would be that there is a quarter to half second delay between moving the stud finder and it giving a response in that part of the wall. I've found for the most accurate results, move across the wall at a slower pace.

I should have read more about this before buying it but I wanted this to find flooring joists to fix squeaks. Unfortunately I found out that this des not work well for wood floors. This works by looking for density changes. With drywall you have empty pockets of insulation and then thick beams of wood. This is great as it's able to pinpoint where studs are immediate. Unfortunately I have hardwood floors and it reads every plank as a dense area. As it move it across the planks it reads the center of every plank as a beam. Not really the device's fault as I should have read it beforehand. I tested it on my walls and it found all the studs immediately though. Just beware of the material applications before buying.

FIRST, before you buy this, look at the online PDF of the instruction/safety precautions sheet.Search: PDF Franklin ProSensor T6This will give you all of the information you need. There is also a sales video on YouTube which shows the basic idea.NEXT: I highly recommend that you get a Sperry DualCheck voltage tester if you are at all concerned that there could be live wiring behind any wall. https://www.amazon.com/Sperry-Instruments-VD7504GFI-Non-Contact-Indicators/dp/B0152U89DC They are very easy to use and can see an electrical wire from a foot or more away.I bought this simply because I'm working on ceilings and must have positive locations of places to take nails or screws. This situation does not work well with magnetic nail sensors for some reason. The T6 thrives in that environment. It is made especially for smooth sheetrock surfaces, so heavy texturing or blown "soft" materials might be impossible to work with.Sensor depth range is 1.5 inches, and the T6 cannot easily distinguish between wood and other materials that might be within that range on the other side of the sheetrock. The T6 is NOT for walls or surfaces with lathing or other plastering anchors. The T6 is designed for standard residential and office walls and ceilings with sheetrock and minimal coverings. You must not wear gloves while operating the T6 because it is tuned to human skin. There is no calibration required to operate this tool... just push the button and slowly move horizontally across the surface.MY Experience:I am installing room dividers and must connect to ceilings. Some of the walls and ceilings I work with do not have ferrous fasteners, so I cannot use the inexpensive magnetic nail/screw finders. This device not only finds the wooden structure on the other side of the sheetrock, you can easily map it out by seeing where the edges of the joists or studs are and determining the exact centers. I first mark the location of the room divider with a line and then move along the line marking the edges of the joists. It's very simple and quick. I recommend this tool and wish I'd had one in the past. Franklin makes other versions, but this is the one I'd recommend for residential work.Note that the T6 can't identify a live wire, or one that is switched off for that matter. You might get a flash if it is close to the sheetrock on the other side, but there's no way to know if it's a wire or a pipe or a dead mouse, I guess. That's why you will want the voltage detector if you suspect something live or dangerous could be there and you're about to cut a hole or modify the structure... so it's a good idea to map out an area to determine regular spacing of studs and joists. With the T6 it's not difficult at all.

This is the best stud finding tool I've ever used. I used to struggle to find studs for picture hanging in apartment walls with a simple stud finding magnet, but it was always a guess. Not with this too: works perfectly every time.

This thing.... Seems like a great, simple concept, but it works like an twitchy mouse who just sniffed some coke he ran into in a dumpster. For example, you'll get one light, pan it over, get more and more lights. Suddenly every one of them is lit. What is this, a 6in wide beam? Keep scrolling it over, they stay lit when you must clearly be past the beam. Lift and repeat the process. Now you get two lights in the center twitching on and off. Try again. Now it starts like the first time, one light after another staying on. Then it flashes all of them and shows no lights. Uh? What? Some days it works accurately. Most of the time, it never stops changing its mind about what's inside your wall. Even at its best, it shows more lights than it should, giving the impression of a much wider beam.I usually end up setting it aside and using a $6 magnetic nail finder to estimate center point, and that has worked like a charm. I really wanted this product to work because, in theory, you could more accurately gauge the position and edges/boundaries of objects in your wall, but it is simply too flaky and inconsistent to be useful for anything other than giving you a general idea of where objects might be (at which point you bring in a better, cheaper tool to confirm).

I purchased this T6 stud finder for a few reasons. Firstly it is well reviewed with almost unanimously positive feedback. There is a protective case available for storage, although at an additional cost. Even though there are bigger models available the really big one is overly big and as suggested by some reviews is almost a two handed job to use.. Then there is the newer and bigger T9 which only has a couple of reviews and I could not find a case to fit. Also I have been caught before when a "bigger and better model" of some item comes out and it turns out to be a bigger and not better but more cheaply made with profit as a goal.

So simple to useAccurate pick up through a double layer of plasterboardWould've liked it to have been cheaper but its an import from USAPleased with it, it certainly made quick work of attaching skirting

I ordered this stud finder as a stocking stuffer for me this year. I chose it because it looked more useful than some of the other products on the market. It is very easy to use, accurate, and specific enough that I can tell where the middle of a stud is when I am drilling holes. This model is really nice because it has more than just 3 lights - it has about 7, in fact. This means you can really get a really good sense for where the edges of a stud are quite easily, and also see when you are dealing with a post or double stud. This product is ideal for the home repair person who needs to do basic installation of things like shelves - ie. where you need to know where a stud is, and aren't concerned about finding wiring (there are other products by the same manufacturer that do that). I've put up a set of shelves, a fold out mirror, and a wall-mounted laundry rack using this stud finder, so far - all items that you really do NOT want to just use drywall to anchor. In each case, the stud finder has done its job perfectly.

I’m renting at the moment so I only tested it on the gyprock wall without actually drilling it, but the readings are fairly accurate, as you can tell by checking the edge of walls and existing fixtures on the wall.I especially like the fact that it shows the whole stud by several led lights, so much easier than the little LCD screens from other finders.

first of all, no off switch, so even when its not detecting, itll continue draining the battery, insert batteries one day, BRAND NEW ONES, they will be dead tomorrow
