How can you tell the Fuel Tank Filler Cap/gas cap needs replaced?
1.Cap does not tighten properly
Most Fuel Tank Filler Cap/gas caps are designed to click once they are tightened sufficiently. If the cap does not click, or clicks and then pops loose again then that may be a sign that it may need to be replaced.
2.Fuel smell from the vehicle
If the Fuel Tank Filler Cap/gas cap seal becomes damaged or worn it may cause fuel vapors from the gas tank to leak from the filler neck. This may result in a gasoline odor from the vehicle as a result of the escaping vapors.
3.Check Engine Light comes on
A bad or failing fuel cap will not necessarily cause major performance issues, but it can set off the Check Engine Light, which will prevent the vehicle from passing an emissions test. If you suspect that your gas cap may be having an issue, please take a minute to check the gas

This came incredibly well packaged, it was very obviously unused, and swapping it out with the ancient (and likely original) gas cap took less than a minute. It fit perfectly! Now I'm just waiting to see if this will resolve the error code I was watching, or if I need to get it into the garage for work.

It does what it says it does for my 2005 Camry (America's second most boring car behind the Corolla). Personally, I belong to the three to four clicks school of gas cap tightening. On other days, I've been known to go real high to five clicks but three is the minimum amount though two also works well. You shouldn't tighten it with one click unless you're in a hurry because a homeless dude is approaching you at the gas pump. Then, i think one click will do.It's a very functional gas cap too. It screws in well and screws off well like most teens during summer.I recommend using a gas cap even this one. It's good to have a gas cap. The gas doesn't leak out with a gas cap, the gas fumes stay in and the gas system, a pressurized sealed system works better when it is sealed though a few summers ago I drove a car without a gas cap and nothing happened. Why is that? Of course the sock i stuffed in the hole did a good job but my brother was mad cause he had a pair of non matching socks that year. He deserved it. So, maybe you can save money and not buy a gas cap at all.

Was looking for an OEM LOOK AND FUNCTION. Fresh out of the box it's identical, 2 days after install the car was showing a code evaporative emissions small leak. Put the old cap on and cleared the code, no codes for over a month.MORAL of the story: if it's not broke don't fix it

Item fit like a glove. Old cap seal was old causing an evaporator leak. This one fixed the issue.

My check engine light came on the other day, I used my mini OBD reader to find it was a large air leak, actually it said there were two large air leaks. Both had to do with the vapor recovery system. I looked up the codes and one said the gas cap could be the issue. The other was a $75.00 carbon filled recovery box or the one of the valves in the line of that system.I decided to go with the cheapest option, and checked the gas cap on my truck, it was not tight on the tank inlet, no matter how hard I pushed and turned it would not tighten up. A week later when the gas cap arrived I put it on and it clicked shut. I then cleared the code with my OBD reader, and it worked the check engine light stays off now.
