It seemed like a small amount but after we put down vermiculite it was more than we needed. It looks nice and makes a nice glowing under the fire.

You can’t put it on too thick or the flame can’t reach the gas that is coming out.

This was half the cost as the local fireplace store.Product worked great and was more that enough for mine and my son’s fireplace.Takes a mere minute to put in place and adds a great glow.

Our gas fireplace seemed to have lost some of it's glow. Replacing with this did the trick! Now we once again can enjoy the glowing appearance of real burning embers. Good product. You don't need much so this will be a lifetime supply.

I missed the part where they add $3 for shipping, so apparently this is not a Prime item. I used this in a vented gas-log fireplace after I cleaned it out of past embers and lava rock. Rock wool and vermiculite.... as other reviews said you get more than you will ever need. I am not sure how much the vermiculite adds to the ambience.... maybe it reflects some light... The rock wool "glowing embers" are a little scratchy, like fiberglass insulation, so if you are able to wear gloves when you place them, it might be a good idea. You can watch videos on how to place them, but the main idea is to put pieces close enough to the burner that a flame touches them without covering a burner outlet and blocking the gas. I took out most of the logs to expose the burners (take a photo first so you know how they go back), placed the embers, and turned on the fire without the logs. It was an iterative process until I was reasonably happy with the ember placement. Unfortunately a few moved or fell when I put the logs back together and moved things around a little, but the gas fire definitely looks much better with these than without them (and some lava rock to hide what you can of the piping, etc.).
