Son's expansion tank radiator cap was showing signs of small leaks. The seal under the cap was getting worn. Replaced it and so far so good. No leaks or signs of failure. Cap has been on the car for a month.

I've only owned my Z4 for about six weeks, but I know that the reservoir tanks (which are part of the pressurized cooling system) are prone to failure, so while I was replacing the valve cover gasket (which led me to proactively upgrade the VANOS with a replacement which required draining the radiator and popping off a coolant hose), I decided to replace the reservoir tank. After completing several flush cycles using distilled water and then a proper mixture of BMW coolant/antifreeze, I thought I bled the system exactly as instructed. BUT it kept leaking. I thought perhaps it was because air continued to be trapped in the system and that the system was overpressurized or something and was forcing coolant out through the cap. The o-rings on the cap get permanently deformed over time (see photos). I highly recommend if you are doing any cooling system work and it still has the original cap, just spend the little bit of money for one of these caps as preventative maintenance. You will not be sorry!

Well it resolved my problem. The old cap was loose band unable to hold the coolant under pressure. This new one does the job
