It's made of stainless steel to it won't rust in your cooling system. Very nicely made, too.

2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee WJ 4.0 perfect fit and function. Old thermostat stuck open and wouldn't let the engine come up to temperature. Tripped a check engine light. Replaced with this and worked great.

This is stamped motorad. In my limited experience, motorad is hit and miss quality wise. First one I installed failed open immediately. Second one has been installed for 5 months. My Jeep seems to run at the correct temperature so far.

I was having cooling issues with my truck a few months back and needed a thermostat. I purchased a Gates because it's a tried and true name and I expected a quality part. Unfortunately, this was not the case. The thermostat failed in less than 6 months, and much to my surprise, it's NOT a Gates thermostat. I never paid attention when I installed the thermostat, but when I pulled it out, I did. As you can see in the pics I posted, this is a Motorad thermostat. Is Motorad making Gates parts now? Was it packaged improperly? Who knows? In the pics you can also see the failure point in the seal pulling loose from the thermostat body. It's very disappointing to say the least, but not uncommon these days with auto parts. Things like this rarely happened years ago, but today it's become "normal." I still say there should be a nationwide chain of stores called, "Hit and Miss Auto Parts." At least it would be an honest depiction of what the auto parts industry has become, and you would know exactly what you're getting! I did not replace it with a Gates. In my mind, it's yet another part that has lost its "quality" reputation.
