I was pretty skeptical that this would be a useful tool. It looks kinda cheesy. Turns out it is completely awesome. Works very well and locks once squeezed and holds the hose clamps securely.

I could not have replaced the thermostat or coolant outlet on my Chevy Sonic without this. It’s nice that it locks so you can open the clamp and then use both hands to manipulate the hose or clamp. Can’t believe I didn’t get one sooner. Just buy it, you won’t regret it.

These GEARWRENCH cable pliers are perfect for accessing clamps that will not allow access with a set of pliers or regular hose clamp pliers. They are extremely well made. Their weakness is they fail to open the hose clamp wide enough to allow you to easily slide the clamp out of the way and the cable pliers and the teeth for the ratcheting lock are too far apart and fail to lock open the clamp in its fully compressed state. I have to keep a tight squeeze on the handle to maintain maximum compression (between teeth) while simultaneously trying to slide the clamp away from the hose end.

I needed these Hose Clamp Pliers for a upcoming job on my car's cooling system. I've never had a problem w/Gearwrench tools in the past, and while hesitant about the price, I went ahead and order these.I tried removing two different sized Spring Clamps from Hoses, 23mm x 12mm ~ 1" x .5" and17mm x 12mm ~ .7" x .5" and the tool failed to remove them both.While the GearWrench Cable Hose Clamp Pliers would grip the clamp's, it took quite a lot of strength to get the clamps open enough to slide them down the hose. The "locking mechanism" didn't seem to hold so your fighting the tool more than the Clamp. I had to give up and use a pair of regular Pliers.I would add that if you don't need the extended reach of the cable, your probably better off w/a regular pair of Hose Clamp Pliers as they seem to provide more leverage against the Clamps.I'm not very happy w/my purchase.

When it comes to getting to clamps for the cooling hoses under the hood of the vehicle. That are hard to reach with pliers, this works very well for it. I use this tool very commonly, and I’ve not had any issues with it. It’s worth the price when you cool at similar ones like this, that are perhaps twice the cost.

The tool is a serious benefit if your car has the spring type hose clamps. I have fought with spring type clamps for years, but this tool allows you to open the clamp, slide it into position and then release the tool with the clamp perfectly positioned. The flexible cable allows the clamp to be positioned in hard to reach spaces.
