Product worked as expected and the installation was relatively easy. If you’re not used to working inside an electrical panel, hire an electrician, but I was able to install this and an exterior inlet box in less than two hours.

As you can see from the stock image of the interlock installed on a Square-D power panel it is a clean and uncomplicated install. The kit comes with a template for properly drilling three small holes in the switch cover assembly to mount the switch interlock bracket. The instructions are illustrated and very clear, in three languages. The interlock requires the breaker to control generator connection be in the top right breaker position. If you have replaced a breaker before in most any panel is should be easy to move your generator breaker if needed or you might have this done by an electrician. After taking off the power panel switch plate cover, I had the installation completed in about 20 minutes. The interlock operation prevents the generator and main power breakers both from being on at the same time. It is comforting to know my wife could restore our power without any danger of commercial power being turned on while generator switch connection was on and it meets NEC requirements. It's a simple solution and solves a real safety issue for power panel breaker fed back-up power.

I bought this kit to allow me to connect a standby generator to my house load center for use during power outages. The kit is very easy to install, requiring only 3 holes to be drilled in the load center cover and then installing the provided hardware.In addition to this kit you will need a circuit breaker that can be back-fed from the generator. [Note: this will not work with GFCI breakers]. You will also need a socket for the generator to feed, generator cable {e.g. NEMa 14-30P and NEMA 14-30 cable of desired length]. And of course a generator!The interlock allows isolation of the house circuits from the mains power and connection of an external generator to the house circuits. The sliding interlock plate prevents simultaneous connection of both power sources. This is an approved, UL listed conversion.With the generator connected, the house circuits that need to be powered can be switched on via their individual breakers, up to the maximum load of the generator. The advantage is that you are using the safe, regular house wiring and breakers rather than risky, long, extension cords running through doors and windows.It would be possible to wire up a sub-panel to perform a similar function for some circuits but with this kit the modifications are much simpler, the results more flexible and certainly more cost effective.

It only takes about 10 to 15 minutes to install if you have never done it before. Just take your time and make sure you have the template in the right place and make sure all 3 holes are lining up correctly before you even start to drill. I almost messed up putting the template on the wrong side so just take your time and double check everything before you even pick up the drill. You will be very happy with the results if you do it right. Not hard at all just think twice and make sure before doing anything at all.

This absolutely does the job that is intended. With that being said, it's not the same quality as the genuine Square D part. (Definitely not a Square D part as some reviews have said.) The genuine Square D part is stainless steel, and this part is galvanized steel. Also, the included information sticker that you're supposed to stick on your panel door appears to be for the QOM kit, and doesn't mention QO.
