After dealing with trunk lock issues for years with my 2006 Civic EX Coupe, I finally decided to replace it. The latest issue was that the manual floor release near the driver's seat stopped working. I, too, had experienced the joy in the past of having to unbolt the rear split seats in order to squeeze an arm through to get to the seat release latch. Then I had to crawl into the trunk to open it via the emergency release latch. There is no key hole on the outside of the car (nice job Honda), no keyhole on the rear deck for seat fold down (like my '99 Civic had) and if the remote and manual floor release stop working, you are in trouble.Luckily, this time around the remote still worked but I decided it was time to replace the lock unit since a piece I had previously repaired broke again. This replacement part was a perfect match and it took less than 5 minutes to switch out. The only tool needed was a ratchet with a 10mm socket. All you have to do is unclip the electrical connector, unhook the cable and remove 2 bolts to take out the old unit. Then take the new unit and tighten the bolts, hook up the cable and the electrical connector. Pretty simple. I'm a female and I figured it out. Everything works great now!

Installation was a snap. However, getting inside the trunk due to a failed unit was a beast! On the 2006 Civic SE 2D Coupe, there is no key tumbler, only the driver seat cable and keyfob. When the unit fails you are locked out ... completely. To access the trunk, I had to remove the back seat bench (easy) and then remove a hinge pin bolt between the two folding seats. With the bolt removed, I had to separate the right side of the left seat back at the pivot point with a screw driver (not easy) then carefully pull out the lower right corner of the left seat back. Reaching in behind the seat with my arm, I could just reach the seat folding release latch inside the trunk. Once the seat was released and folded down, I could crawl inside the trunk and open the truck deck.The failure point on the original trunk latch was two small screws holding the electronic and cable interface part to the actual latch. I could have replaced the two screws for about $.25 but decided to install the new assembly as it represents a common failure component (per internet search results). It is a one hour job if you need to break into the trunk. Otherwise, it is an easy 5 minute job.

Bolted on and clipped cable in in about 2 minutes. Key opens trunk like supposed to.

I bought this trunk locker for my Honda Civic 2006. It fit perfectly, I would say better than the original one. It is way easier to be screwed. The connection was pretty simple, just had pluggle it on the home connector and that is all. Later reset the alarm and then everything will be perfect.
