YMMV with longevity for these filters but if you're filtering water mostly from reasonably clear streams, lakes and ponds these filters last for years. I use mine several times a week and am just now replacing the filter after almost three years...not because it stopped working, but because it was getting more difficult to push water thru it. The old filter still did its job..it was just taking longer to do it. This is the best water filter you can buy, IMHO. Absolutely love the thing. It's been dropped on rocks, banged around and has lots of dings, but it's performance has not diminished one bit.

This is a trusted and well used piece of gear. I take it backpacking, camping, hiking and kayaking, use this in many different freshwater sources, and never have an issue. It's my go to on the go water filtration kit. I now use grayl exclusively in the outdoors. You will be hard pressed to find another portable purifier that will remove as many contaminants as Grayl

I have carried a grayl for years on trips to virtually every continent in the world. In places where the water is from "natural sources" I use a cloth bag to skim the solids and then the filter. In countries with "non-potable water" from the sink I use the filter and, most of the time, do the extra step of a steripen. Flavor is better and the water is safe. These cartridges really don't "need" the use of a steripen type device; I am just extra cautious. Also not - these are the new model which fit the membrane that allows drink mixes to be put directly into the GeoPress.

The only difficulty I have is with separating the cups when I want to refill or clean the bottle parts. My 74 year old hands find I need help with that. The pressing part is easy. This is a gift from my son and daughter-in-law for my birthday to take camping - a cross between tent and primitive camping as I do use some comfort items.I like the bright colors for they are easier for me to see - anytime. My next one I think will be blue.Pricey but reliable with a good safety factor.Addendum: It took five five cycles before the seals sealed. I let it sit overnight in pieces and this morning it seems to work properly. The next few days will tell me for sure if this particular cup system is reliable.I tried videoing the the run overs but by myself I was not successful.Thank you for your inquiry about my Grayl water bottle purification system.

I use this product as an emergency water filtration system. I tried it on my own well water and have been using it for a month or two. It started getting very tough to push down after maybe 20-25 presses (24 oz. bottle) and after as many more, it takes at least a minute or more to press down. This is supposed to handle 300+ presses (around 65 gal. water), and even though the water still tastes amazing, this is tap water. Clear tap water. It shouldn't be this tough to press after so few presses. It's most frustrating.Other than that, this is a stellar product. Great concept and function, and I even bought the Ultralight bottle as well.......mostly because I ordered those filters instead of the Geopress ones, so why not? It's only money lol
