I highly recommendvthis product. I am a 58 year old female who has enjoyed doing my own repairs, upgrades, and improvements on my home. I'm not a professional but can and have successfully done several things most people hire a professional. I love this tool because as you age your physical movements you so love and take full advantage of in your youth slowly become obviously less accommodating it is good to have something to assist in this manner. It is very easy to use. I use to make holes to place wall anchors, start threading into wood, metal and plastic. It's great for more delicate jobs or where a power tool could be possibly too aggressive. I have this tool in my tool bag as I do small jobs for friends, family or whoever is in need of to my capacity. I but will probably buy another one for my miscellaneous drawer in my kitchen so I do not have to keep going to the garage and get out of tool bag. This is a true game changer for me!

I'm frankly surprised at the reviews suggesting this tool makes the job go "easier" or that it's a handy replacement for a drill. The screwing end is somewhat blunt compared with other hole-starters, and the handle is relatively thin and made of hard (and slippery) plastic. But if you're strong and persistent, and if you're screwing into a surface that's somewhat soft and porous, and if you're wearing a pair of rubbery, slip-proof gloves, this is potentially a useful tool for starting with.But it's far from a last resort. If this one doesn't get you going, don't overlook the #2 Phillips Screw-Holding Screwdriver from Klein Tools (32216), which is capable of holding the actual screw in a lock grip, making a tool like the Great Neck Screw Starter completely unnecessary. And the triple set of screw-starters called the Narex Gimlet 3" offers three different screw-starters, each with a sharper point than the Great Neck's and each with a grip-friendly handle guaranteed not to slip.Still, I'd agree that the Great Neck Screw Starter is priced right and is potentially useful enough to be a worthy complement to anyone's box of fundamental household tools.

Great little tool, I had an one and a friend of mine saw it and wanted one, so I got a couple of them to give out at Christmas.These are well made, do the job of a drill to start screws and other things. I love it.Search the stores in Oberlin, Watson Hardware, Ace Hardware and Home Deport, they knew about this tool but did not stock it.thanks to Amazon once again for having a variety of quality products.

This tool is a necessity for anyone that needs to get a screw started into pieces of wood, plaster, etc. Makes life a lot easier. Worth every penny.

I had one of these years ago and used it all of the time. I decided to get another one and thought this one looked substantial. It is substantial - BUT - the point isn't sharp at all and it's really difficult to start a hole for the screw - WHICH IS THE WHOLE IDEA! I should send it back - but think it's too late. It's pretty much useless.

Thank you .... we searched all over our area at name brand hardware stores. Got told there was no such tool. They didn't listen even took it back to a couple of the stores and they were going to try to find some to keep on hand.

Compared to Erwin screw starter’s hard needle like tip this product’s point would not break skin when pressing. With a slight hole already in material the product works completely as expected. Grips with force applied, giving a tight threaded start allowing any hand threaded object a good start. The tool was bought for quick entry of firm surface. Rounded point not up to my basic requirements.
