I have the small model, which is enough for me to use 3-4 pieces of charcoal and a couple small wood chunks. I usually use this to pump up the smoke flavor on my Camp Chef pellet smoker. I usually start with this box in the smoker and the smoker set with high-fan and low temp, and it seems to have plenty of fresh oxygen to properly combust. The box is well built and I haven't had any rust or corrosion. Great product, highly recommended!

I've recommended this to so many people. The results speak for themselves. I use thos on a Lone Star Grillz 20x42 pellet. The only thing it needs to truly be a 5 star item is bigger air intake holes. My smoldering wood would die out and not smoke after about an hour.I drilled out the intake holes and BAM great wood chunk smoke.Buy it as is then drill out the diamond holes 1 size bigger. This will allow more air to allow the wood chunks to do their job. It's big enough for 3 wood chunks, yet small enough to fit in most pellet smokers. You will achieve better results than a wood pellet tube. Does it work as is (Not so much), does it work with slightly larger holes (Abso Fn lutly)No regrets on purchase. I only wish the designer would see the flaw and correct it

I got the smaller model but found that even though I intended to use my gas grill to supply additional heat that the smaller model wasn't able to provide as much smoke as I would have liked. In the end I got it to meet my needs better by overfilling it and using applying high heat to it prior to cooking. I still recommend the product but buy the large one if you have 3-4 burner gas grill

This is my initial impression of my new smoke box. I used it for the first time while smoking a Boston butt inmy Pit Boss 700. The smoke box itself is very solidly built, and the 12x6x6 size a perfect fit for the PB700 or larger pellet smokers. I used waxed wood fire starters and a few pieces of lump charcoal for the base fire, added 8-inch oak log splits and put the lid in place. The result was a constant flow of smoke from the Pit Boss smoke stack for about 45 minutes. Even when loaded to capacity with wood splits, about an hour of smoke resulted. I wish there was some way to slow the combustion in the box to extend the smoke generation period. It may be that my choice of wood splits is the cause, so no foul against the smoke box at this point. The bottom line was the results; absolute raves for the pulled pork from the pork butt!Overall, I am very pleased with the results of the smoke box addition to my Pit Boss pellet smoker.

I spent the extra money for this smoke box cause of its size and construction. After recieving it I was pleased with both however I decided to smoke two whole chickens to test it out. I placed the full box on over a burner and heated it for 20 minutes, no smoke. I then put the heat under the box to low and placed my chickens on indirect heat on the adjacent burner hoping soon smoke would appear. Long story short, never did it produce smoke during the two hours of cooking. The chips were dark but did not ignIte. Why? The chicken turned out good but with only a slight smoke flavor. I want more!!!! What gives?

This box is amazing. I love my pellet smoker but wish it had more smoke flavor. So I ran some wood chunks in this while smoking a brisket and could not be happier with the flavor and smoke it adds to the meat.I did end up drilling a couple extra holes because I was having some airflow issues, but after that it puts out plenty of smoke. The airflow issue is the only thing that kept it from perfection and 5 stars. But I’m still recommending it to all my buddies

Don't even bother buying this. There is not nearly enough air holes in it, and even with the top removed, your wood will not stay smoking. I even used a couple charcoal briquettes in the bottom to keep it going and basically the the charcoal burned instead of the wood. Even taking a MAAP gas torch to wood chips wouldn't keep them ignited and smoking lol. Waste of money ......
