The metal keeper that's suppose stop it from unwinding will bend before the cord breaks.

Don't buy this winch, it's galvanized metal and the teeth are already wearing causing skipping. I purchased this as a temporary fix for a hay dolly. My hay rolls are only 800lbs so this should be able to handle them with no problem. The cable came with pinches in it already, there is way too much cable and it doesn't all roll up properly. In addition, the teeth are wearing and the safety catch has flipped over on me twice now. I had to take that piece apart and reset it so I could continue using the winch in the moment. Overall poor value for what you pay.

Really like the ratchet both ways. The free turn is a little hard to set but I don’t use than so not a big deal. A friend of mine like these so he has ordered some. Would buy again

When you need a light duty and relatively short distance winch, this one with the strap is the best alternative. The strap winds and unwinds nice and clean and flat onto the roller every time. Versus a rope or cable winch that tends to tangle and chew up the rope or cable every time you use it.
