- Well, when they say "extra fine", they MEAN it!!! This needle is literally so close to being the same diameter as the "size 50" DMC Cordonnet thread that, if there is any difference, I can't tell. For all of that, though the needle is *absolutely* smooth and also springy, so it doesn't have to be treated like glass ;) and it's surviving my not-so-delicate-touch quite well. - The good thing about that is, when the work ((with the Size 50 thread)) comes off of the needle, it stays tight, whereas the larger needle I'd originally tried made the work loose and floppy. - The bad thing is that, since the "Size 50" is the thickest thread this needle will take, the process of getting the thread through the eye is really difficult for me! To accommodate my 60-year-old eyes, I had to use a very bright light, plus magnifier glasses over my regular ones, had to bite the therad-end to get it as flatt/narrow as possible, and then grab the TINY bit that made it through. -- But once that was done, there was no "catching" at all - the eye seemed to be perfectly smooth and, once threaded, the thread did just glide through. - The included needle-threader would be useful for finer thread, but the "Size 50" seems to be a bit too thick for the needle-threader to pull the doubled thread through the eye, if that description makes sense... =:o - It's very nice to work with, all in all, once it's threaded ;)

I don't really needle tat, I prefer shuttles. But for my friend who found it impossible to use the shuttle, I bought two of these babies, and now he's a pupil suprassing the master! TBH I love all things Handy Hands, and I've been a HH customer for years. Only this time I bought via Amazon for shipping convinience reasons. This needle has a good length, is durable, comes with a threader thingie, and has proved to be great.

This needle will work but only with the finest thread so not what I was looking for, I wasn't aware of that until it was in my possession.
