I used these last night to wind two springs on the garage door. I followed the advice to always work to the side, and to insert the rod to a winding hole to use as a guide to know each and every time that it is inserted to the full depth. If you wanted to get real fancy, you could paint the outer-most ends a red color after you put the tape on, then take the tape off. If red shows, the rod isn't in far enough. I did this after-the-fact just now in case there is a next time because it seems like a good idea. Took about 3 minutes to paint the 4 ends. These rods are sturdy enough, not bending, and only took about 8-10 pounds force pushing upwards at the end at the final 90 degree pushes. They were not too tight, and look about 1mm (0.040") diameter clearance to the winding holes. (I don't have calipers at home to measure that close). The winding process took about 4-5 minutes per side. I had locked a vice grip on the shaft to keep it from turning round and round unexpectedly. When I tightened the winding cone screws, the wrench started turning a bit downward as if the springs were trying to the lift the door. Seemed about right. The rods have a small estimated 1mm x 45 degree lead chamfer on both ends to help seat into the hole on the winding. I couldn't imagine not having good rods after doing this job that could be a major safety dilemma if you used the wrong tools.

I used these to save myself a $150 bill from a garage door company that wanted to rip me off by retightening my spring. My garage door would not go up and of course I messed with the cables and it must have loosened the spring. I got quotes from $75-150 to tighten the spring. I thought that was ridiculous and did research.I used these winding bars and it went great. A friend who had done it before helped me and we fixed my garage door in about 15 minutes.Good quality and it was a great fit. This is not a flimsy product. Some try to use a screw driver but in reality it's very dangerous to not use these winding bars. This $11 purchase saved me $100 to $150 dollars. Thanks again and if you need your springs tightened or adjusted, purchase this item immediately.

I would have cost me quite a bit of money to pay someone to come out and replace my broken torsion spring. Instead I watched some YT videos and decided to DIY the project. These are a necessary tool. You can try using re-rod, but you'll likely get a slip and hurt yourself if you're not experienced. These fit the wind holes for torsion springs perfectly.

The picture does not do the bars any justice. Both ends are machine/lathed for better fit into holes, one end is machined to fit in the hole and the other is machined so no burrs are left that can injure your hand. Unfortunately, I was not able to use them as they took longer to arrive than I could wait and promised. I ended up calling a local garage door business to repair my door. Reason I couldn't wait for their arrival is a below-zero deg. F system was moving in and I had to get the door fixed. Once they showed up, I inspected them and they look as good as the one's used by the garage door guy. I will have them for future use.

Fixed my garage door and saved $150 compared with calling the guy out again. These rods really helped. They fit well into the holes on the adjustment cones that tighten the springs -- not too tight, not too loose. Well worth the investment versus trying to make do with something that's not really up to the job.Tip: before you start, slip each rod into the hole as far as it will go. Then wrap a piece of masking tape around the rod just where it emerges from the hole. This gives you a guide as to how far you need to slip the rod in with each turn.Take your time and make sure the rod is seated well on each quarter-turn. If you try to go too fast it's easy to not insert the rod far enough.Although inherently dangerous, if you take your time and are very careful the procedure isn't that hard. Don't do anything dumb like stand directly in front of the cones where the rod could bounce back at you, or get in a hurry and don't stick the rod all the way in. The rods themselves are very sturdy and I found them easy to grip.Take your time.Be careful.Take your time.Be careful.Do I need to say that again?

These made job easy instead of trying to find something to fit properly

Bought these for their intended use, torsion spring winding, and noticed that one had a slit in it. Don't have time to send it back and get new ones, so I made sure to use the sides which had no defects. Other than that, they do what they designed for.Don't know how these got past quality control, but someone could get hurt if they do not know to inspect them before using.

This is just 2 iron or steel bars but just what’s needed to do the Job. I have a door that’s about 18 feet wide and 8 inches tall. The cable broke, opener broke and the other cable had to be taken off because it was twisting the door. Cables off caused the springs to loose tension. With nothing helping to lift this door, I could only lift it about 1â€. I measured and purchased new cables off amazon along with this tool. The tension was such that I trembled a bit. I gave it 28 ¼ turns without a slip on bought sides. I could then lift the door with two hands but when all the way up; it came back down about 8 inches. I let the door down and gave each side 3 more ¼ turns. Now I can lift the door with one hand and it stays all the way up. For the cost of this tool it would not have been worth my time to look for a substitute and at about 20 turns I could feel and see why I needed the right tool. If I never use it again, It was well worth the cost. I got quotes of $150.00 to do what $9.00 cables and this tool and I accomplished in about 1 hours. This was my first. Tip. Lock a c clamp over that roller so the door does not lift while you are turning. That could be bad. Received the item very quickly.

The winding rods fit nicely into the slots of the torsion spring. Felt safe when using these rods to wind or unwind the torsion springs. They are expensive but safety is important when handling torsion springs. They help me to save some big bucks.DIY ðŸ‘ðŸ˜

Easy to use. I was able to fix my garage door without any issues. Some whiteness marks at the bottom of the tool after one use but no real damage. It is a good and safe tool for home usage. Would not recommend it for professional use.

I used it to readjust my garage door and it worked fine! Just like 2 steel bars but the size was fitting good and strong enough to hold the spring. I WILL lend them to others asking for sure because they are almost like for one time use. Hope there's no case to use them again. :)

Worked like a charm and was easily able to tighten my garage springs... probably could of just got some cheap steel rods from my local hardware store and it would've done the same job but whatever (kinda weird none of the majors hardware companies in my area sell these). My big garage is now easier to lift thanks to these. Wish I know about this before my garage door opener failed on me, now I have a lighter door and a 2hp opener so I shouldn't be running into this issue again down the road.
