Winter camping in NY (not by choice). Didn't want to unhook the water softener and end up having hard water damaging the pipes or new washing machine in my motorhome so I got this and wrapped it around the unit. Placed styrofoam boards around the until (allowing for airspace) and covered it with a large lawn and leaf bag and it's working great! Have had multiple nights of below freezing temps (several in the teens) and the unit is working well in conjunction with the heated water hose and a small ceramic heater in my wet bay.I also put a sliced pool noodle around the hose to and from the water softener (under the black bag in the picture). If you have an "on-th-go" water softener, the manufacturer said to insure the top cap was protected (where all the metal parts are) so the heat tape is wrapped around those under the bag, as well. I also laid a piece of fiberglass insulation over the top of the cap loosely inside the bag as well. It needs air space so nothing can be tight inside the protective "box" of styrofoam board.

I installed this on my outdoor water supply system which is temporary until our well gets put in. I was able to create an automation using Home Assistant along with a temperature sensor to turn it on when below 34F and off when above so I don't have to manually plug it in. Works a treat!

I will say this does all it says and would get a five star review but it never turns off. It does not seem to adequately change temperature according to the ambient temperature when that is above 50-60F*. Unless I am a goober and totally misread everything, this does not ever seem to turn off no matter what the outside temp is. If I install this in an outdoor facing wall, am I somehow supposed to remember to unplug it when there is no threat of freezing or allow it to add additional heat that is not necessary on those days—which are the majority through the year. During testing it never turned off, all the way up to 85F*. Take that for what you will and get it if you have time to police the thermometer each day/week.

Wow, this was the first heated 'tape' I ever got and it is mighty! As a homeowner in Canada with an older home, our house has settled a tad too much and left us with a roof and gutters that don't seem to drain properly and tend to give us very hazardous ice patches at the worst locations around our sidewalk and driveway (even after installing new gutters). This product was quite heavy out of the box, but unspoiled the tape is actually super lightweight, and it is foamy feeling but high quality and waterproof/weatherproof. The length included was more than enough to cover the required area of our roof, and it's supposed to be suitable for a wide variety of different materials without being damaged or damaging the surface it's on.The instruction and information included are quite robust and in-depth on the applications, limitations, maintenance, warnings, etc., and should be straightforward enough for most newbies (I followed it fine), and the setup was quite straightforward. They are very effective at keeping their covered area clear of snow and ice and have aided our roof in draining how it should instead of overflowing and dripping all over the place! They haven't seemed to affect our energy bill that much either so that's certainly a bonus, and supports their self-regulating/sensing temperature feature. Though in the summer they will definitely get unplugged.Overall these are great to have and haven't shown any sign of damage, malfunction, etc. thus far (through -40C), and am hoping they keep doing their thing for another few winters! Definitely worth the cost IMO, will repurchase if we get any other areas that need their help.

At the time of writing this review, this 130ft heat trace cable costs $149.99.Item details:-130 ft heat trace with 6 foot cord- Lighted plug end- Inrush 10.68 amps- Self regulating cable, current will decrease as the cord heats upThis cable has already come in handy for me three times.1 - Defrosting my gas valve for my BBQ. I had a bunch of ice built up around my natural gas valve and I piled this on to melt the ice around it. It melted all the way around it within 5 minutes.2 - Clearing my trough - I used this to clear an ice dam that had formed on the dark side of my house, prevent water from going into one of my troughs.3 - Driveway water flow - We're at the time of year when it goes from +10C to -10C and heavy dumps of snow followed by freezing and thawing patterns. I was able to lay this heat trace tape down the length of my driveway to create a low point for water to go to and drain from my driveway, to prevent water pooling around my foundation.I work A LOT with heat trace at work, as an industrial electrician. This looks as well built as most of the industrial Raychem brand heat trace I work with. The heat is consistent along the entire length of trace. I used my FLIR camera to make sure the entire trace worked and there were no cold spots or breaks. The end cap is heat shrunk on, so it won't last forever. It would be easy enough to use hot glue or any other non conducting means to seal the end back up if it breaks. It's survived being completely submerged in water, salt and ice. It's well built, and easy to see that it's on and working. This is one of those things every home owner should have because you never know when you'll need it.
