Love this collar, due to my ignorance I got the 3.2 mm instead of the 2.25 mm with extra links so I had to remove all but 6 links to fit my doberman properly. Even with only 6 links it works perfectly and it's so heavy I feel safer about it not coming apart and risking losing my rescue while he learns where home is and to come when called.He has learned very quickly with some training not to pull on the collar when we go for walks with some training and the buckle is wonderful! I left the safety piece on after reading reviews and it's very easy to use,I was worried that I would struggle with taking the collar off or on since my fingers can be very sensitive due to a health problem, but I've never had an issue getting it on or off even while I'm being careful not to snag his hair in the process. I saw some other prong collars in the pet store and the quality difference was shocking, I'd never use one of those for fear they'd snap since they felt so flimsy and had no buckle.

Our 54lb 14 month old Goldendoodle was a strong puller, even for my husband. I tried many different collars and was hesitant to try a prong, mainly because I did not understand how to properly fit them and how they worked. Our trainer recommended the prong (after my many collar purchases to try & avoid a prong). In diligently doing my research I chose the Herm Sprenger. Be very selective on quality, don’t be cheap, learn how to properly fit & handle your dog with one. I was concerned about how they work and watched a lot of videos on proper fit & use along with our trainer. This was a game changer, she is doing great! This is a training tool and will not be a forever collar. This tool helps teach her to understand what the pressure means when she pulls on leash. She does great with it, it is comfortable for her and when properly fitted will not slide down, around or be near the dogs trachea area. Your dog will learn to walk loose leash and they will self correct with gentle pressure NOT choking. You DO NOT pull on your dog they will self correct. We got the quick release for easy on off, 2.25 cm prongs, stainless steel and size small worked wonderful on her. MUST be fitted behind ears & jawline not where normal collars ride. We also bought a back up attachment to attach to her regular collar or harness in case prong collar released so you do not loose your dog. Watch for the real Herm Sprenger made in Germany prongs are nicely rounded and smooth unlike sharp after market. The Herm Sprenger is more expensive but so worth it! Highly recommend, make sure & educate yourself how to fit & use. Lots of good dog trainers on YouTubeteaching on use & proper fit.

The prongs was alittle smaller than I thought, but outside of that I really like it. I really like the latch. It works very well. Makes trying easier.

This took my dog from dragging me everywhere and giving me terrible arm pain to almost no pulling. Don't listen to people that say prong collars are cruel. They don't hurt the dog and are the best training option, just learn how to fit and use them. I'd recommend the 2.25mm as it's worked the best out of all the different sizes I've tried.

If you are considering a "prong" collar, DO NOT skimp on cheap imitations. This brand has been around a long time for a reason, and the added clip makes them super easy to put on & take off. I won't go into the pro's and con's of prong collar use but I (and my family) have been taught by professional trainers in their use and we believe the results are worth it for us and our dogs. Always consult a professional in the proper use of this product and do not use other brands of this product, they are not worth the risk. Just about any professional trainer who advocates use of this product will only use Herm Sprenger brand, it's that fact that made us invest in it and we have no regrets.

I do find this helps with the strong pulling of a 65 lbs block of puppy muscle on the end of the leash! lol. They can still pull, and won't mind doing so. But it's easier to handle. So I think this will help for training. (I did have the walkabout harness, but she could still drag me around)!I like the buckle. I think it adds to the safety, as the others will just the hook come off too easily! But I little plastic thingy that slides over to protect the buckle comes off waaay to easily. Waaay too easily! I ended up losing it at the park within the 3rd day. And I tried to be soo careful not to lose it. It was slipping off every time I used it, so I knew it was a matter of time. For the price I paid for this collar, I really thought that they could have at least made that one simple thing a better quality. But the collar is still functional without it.Definitely will not go out without attaching it to a regular collar. It can still come off a little easier than I would like. One instance, we were passing a pit bull friend on the sidewalk. The 2 dogs were wrestling for like 2 minutes for a quick chat. In those 2 minutes, somehow the collar came apart mid prong, and she got loose. The one time I went out without affixing to her regular collar! Thankfully she was too busy playing to care; and the pitty's owner was able to grab hold of her quickly, and held her while I fiddled with getting the prongs back in place. Lesson learned. Won't go without the connector to the regular collar!
