The seeds look clean and viable, and there are a lot of them. However, there is a bit of a conflict in the packaging. The seeds come in a traditional paper envelope, and that envelope indicates there are 1,424 seeds. However, that envelope arrives inside a plastic resealable baggie, and on that baggie is a label describing that it is basil seeds, and it indicates 712 Sweet Italian Large Leaf Heirloom Basil Seeds for Planting. Hmmm. It does indicate that they are packed for the 2025 season, and the sell by date is November 2025.

Basil is an easy herb to grow from seed, but requires some patience and attention. This is a great deal for more than enough seeds. Basil is extremely versatile in the kitchen, and adapts well indoors or outdoors. It's actually a tropical, so don't bother trying to overwinter it outdoors. If you have the capability, or a greenhouse or sunroom, you can plant more to grow and use indoors during the winter. It thrives in heat which is great reason why it goes well with tomatoes - in the garden or in a dish. If you can cut the flowers off and keep it from blooming, the leaves will stay sweet and it will continue to grow more. However, that can become quite the chose, especially when the plant grows big. Another reason why it's fun to grow a lot of basil if you have the room because the pollinators love the flowers and they can be quite pretty in the summer when everything else stops blooming. If you keep basil in a pot, consider making it a large one or at least be prepare to repot it when it gets bigger. It thrives in somewhat moist (but not overly wet) soil - again, it is a tropical, so it doesn't want to be too dry. And here's a tip, cut some of the stalks from the plant in early summer and put them in water and they will form roots. You now have more plants without having to start more seeds. This is a great price for the quantity and the quality of seeds. Would recommend.

We have basil! Started these seeds indoors, and sure enough, we saw sprouts in about a week. Now they’re happily growing in containers alongside our other kitchen herbs. The germination rate seems solid, and they’re thriving with minimal fuss. Looking forward to fresh basil for homemade pesto and pasta dishes soon! 🌱

Really nice packaging, with lots of details on how to grow. I put mine in starter plug on a heat mat, and Saran Wrap it so that it stays moist. Today is February 5th, and the seeds were planted February 1st. That is pretty fast. Excited to try these. I am a cut flower gardener, I’m excited to try these in bouquets!
