Just moved into a new house with Honeywell thermostats and nice A/C systems. These are the first A/C systems I've owned that have 'fresh air' vents versus always recycling indoor air. They're electronically controlled by the thermostat, but I found with the vents open on certain days, the humidity indoors became oppressive (>70%) - adding this outdoor sensor allows me to lockout the vents when outdoor humidity is above a certain level (configured in installer options). Now I don't have to manually switch between external vents and recirculating air. I can just leave the vents on 'auto'. It can also be used to lockout vents when the temperature outside is above or below a certain configurable range. Adding this sensor to both A/C thermostats was a piece of cake (press a button with the thermostat in the 'add a device' screen) and I love the added benefit of being able to see the outdoor temperature and humidity on the thermostats. My thermostats are RedLink style 8321s. I believe this works with any of the RedLink system thermostats. There's quite a distance between my upstairs thermostat and this sensor out on the patio but it seems to have no problems at all.You do not need the RedLink wireless gateway thingamajig for this, it links directly to the RedLink thermostats themselves.Love it! Now I get to enjoy outdoor fresh air in both winter and summer without adding humidity into the mix, and without sucking in 100 degree air (or sub-zero air) in extreme temperatures and overworking the system.Edit:I should note, in case anyone else bangs their head with this one... I struggled getting the vents to open at all when I'd set the high humidity lockout. I was convinced this thing did NOT work properly... Until I realized that on my thermostat, the high humidity lockout setting is set by, and expressed as dew point (degrees) - NOT relative humidity which the thermostat shows. Took me a while to figure that out. I felt so dumb!!!

The casing on my original outdoor sensor had cracked letting water in, and of course, it failed. This replacement works perfectly and was easy to connect to the red Link network used by Honeywell.

Old one stopped working and this was an exact replacement. Instructions to connect were incomplete. In addition to the instructions, I had to go into the Installer Options and add the device to my individual thermostats.

Connected to my thermostat/redlink quickly and easily. Temperature readings match up to my weather station/weather services, humidity might be a tad low, but not drastically. But since all it really does is display the outside temp/humidity on the thermostat, the price is rather high.

I had a thermostat which would occasionally lose the connection to the outside sensor. After lots of troubleshooting, I replaced it and all is well.

Last one lasted over 10 years before humidy sensor started reading low. Yes, you read right, 10 years!! The temp sensor was still good, but given this was all that time outside in nature, wet, wind freezing cold, pollen and dust, it's incredible value and a simple replacement. I've read home owners baing charged hundred$ to have a contractor replace them but that's certainly not needed. The instructions are clearly written and it's simple to do. It is a This isn't a stand alone or Wi-Fi sensor, it's a Redlink sensor, so that's the thing you should already have to use this.

Inexplicably, my outdoor temperature reader was ripped off the side of the deck where it was hidden on the inside. Bizarre! I had an AC guy fixing something else, and despite the system working fine without it, I was aggravated by the message on my thermostat telling me my outdoor sensor was missing. So I asked him how much it would be to replace it.$300. :-(The man was nice enough to show me the box, and suggested that I just buy it myself. Installing it took no time (you just get the battery ready, take the box outside, and put in the wood screws. and that's it for the box. Then you have to go back to your AC unit, pull off a panel, and find the switch (marked, but it'll take a bit to find it) to pair the sensor. Once you hit that, bam, the light flashes, and you're done. The only thing I have to fault this for is that the instructions are terrible. I was confused by the order and the steps themselves, and only after reading it a few times and looking up online did I realize what they were trying to say. Surprising, since it's SO EASY, but expect to futz with it thinking it's more complicated than it is.If you need this sensor for some reason, do yourself a favor and buy it and do it yourself. You'll save a lot of money for almost zero hassle.

I'm not impressed with the so far. Installation was easy enough, but the sensor's readings on temperature and humidity are totally off. I have 3 local weather apps on my mobile phone, and depending on which app I choose to look at our local outdoor temperature today is between 95-96 degrees Farenheit, and our local humidity level is between 34-35%. However according the the Outdoor sensor our local temperature is 117 F (then it will drop to 113 F, then rise suddenly to 119 F) and our local humidity is 18%. I spoke to Honeywell Customer Care (800-468-1502) and they said the temperature on the Outdoor Sensor cannot be calibrated using the Honeywell Thermostat (we're using the Honeywell TH8320R1003 VisionPro HeatCool Digital Thermostat) and that the sensor should be within 2-3 degrees of any local weather temperature readings. They make fewer guarantees on humidity readings due to local variability. Honeywell Customer Care said the Outdoor Sensor we received may be defective, and suggested that we return it to the seller for a replacement.

I bought this sensor to help my thermostat decide what source of heat to use (electricity vs gas). This is controlled depending on what the temperature is outside.Previously it would just hang for 30minutes not heating as it could not figure out what source to use.I hoped that buying this sensor would help it figure out.And it did - my thermostat does not get "stuck" anymore. This sensor works well, provides humidity info and was easy to setup from the wireless section of my compatible thermostat.
