I bought this product to take on walks with my dogs. I live in an area where coyotes are frequently out and I was told to carry a personal alarm in case one crosses our path. This product is lightweight, easy to use, and most importantly, easy to stop the alarm. It has never gone off accidentally as you have to pull the loop from the core, but when I have used it, I can easily re-attach the loop and it stops ringing. It's loud enough to notify others in the immediate area that you need help.

This device is worthy as an additional emergency device to pepper-spray, taser, car alarm, etc... I would suggest a more powerful and rechargeable battery. Is it loud enough and bright enough to do the job? I imagine it will depend on whether it's used indoors or outdoors and the ambient noise level around a person. I think I would prefer a small air horn personally, but that's not convenient to carry around. There will always be questions about effectivity and compromises made. No matter where a person stores an emergency device, is it going to be the right place with easy fast access when needed?

Christmas gift for wife. Very disappointed in performance. In my opinion a total waste of money. Reasons: insufficient volume and light emissions. We compared to small simple Diver's whistle worn on wrist or neckless and there was no comparison. I estimate the whistle was four (4) times louder in volume and easier to access than keychain. No light on whistle but, really, is my wife going to put herself in a dark, unlighted place? I hope not. I predict this is a very sorry fad that will be gone very soon.

Do not buy. This is a joke, it makes a little tweetiing sound which will not scare of anything, human or predator. Tried it on our local fox and he just sniffed at it. Good for scaring squirrels. WE bought 2 and have thrown them away.
