This product is garbage. I was soldering some copper near some studs and the blanket started on fire and broke down in pieces.

It works as described. So far I've used it only for protection from soldering and for this it works well. Hot solder and direct heat are deflected / absorbed by it. The size is appropriate for most household and hobby uses.Recommended.

Handy welding blanket to have when working in tight areas that have flammable surfaces around them. Snap buttons do help when working on a pipe. You can use one or snap them together and work around a wider pipe. Good for protecting counter if soldering indoors or just as a work area when heating items up. About the size of a floor tile and fold up to a 6X6 square for easy storage. Took a torch lighter to one and it did not catch fire. Use them like splash guards in tight work areas good item to have. Minus'd a star due to them tearing if a sharp item runs across it (knife etc.) and it snags then pills apart a bit.

Almost just started my house on fire using this! Glad I had a bucket of water to throw the burning blanket into! Why would you sell these??

I don't do much soldering, but when I do it's usually for replacing valves in new cabinets and, more often than I'd like, on short stub outs. This is a nice mat to have around for those instances beauce it will protect the flame from hitting the finish... or burning the house down, ha. Used my torch on it and it does, unfortunately, smoke quite a bit and puts out a burnt hair kind of smell, but that's honestly better than burning a cabinet or drywall for toilet stub outs. If you find yourself in the kind of circumstances I do and are a moderate level plumber like I am, this mat will probably save you some headaches with messing up finishes and letting you focus on just getting a good sweat done. I'd recommend it for that.

This set of two 12"x12" heat shields are very easy to use. The slit makes it easy to slip over a pipe.The snaps help to keep the mats in place.Much better than using water soaked towels to shield your work.Not a bad price for two of them.Here is how I rate items:5 Stars = Exceeds all expectations, A definite buy!
