This step up ring is well made and even comes with it’s own protective pouch. I was able to put it on to various sized lenses and it fit my 77mm filter perfectly. It is more compact than carrying multiple step up rings. The one issue I had is that it is a little more difficult to put on than a traditional step up ring. You have to twist it to the correct size and then place it on your lens without it moving out of place. For me, it just seems easier to have step up rings. Plus, traditional step up rings are relatively inexpensive. I can see this adapter ring having a place with people who change lenses a lot. For me, I may only use 2, maybe 3 lenses max during a session, so it’s not that practical. Although I think the concept is really cool and the item is well made, the practicality is lost with me. Four stars.

This works but won’t work for me. It will adjust to an infinite size from about 70 to 52 mm. To use, I needed to rotate two knurled rings in opposite directions against the force of a strong spring. This deploys several fingers around the inside of the ring. The smaller than 72mm filter fits upon these fingers. When the knurled wheels are released the strong spring’s pressure on the fingers puts pressure on the filter ring resulting in the smaller filter being retained. The outer, larger ring, screws onto any 72mm lens front. This places the smaller filter in front of the lens. It works and is clever in its own way.Where it fails for me is the difficulty in rotating the knurled rings against each other and the strong spring. This is due to the narrowness of these rings and my thick, clumsy fingers. Please see the image. The slightly out of focus gold colored item to the right of the rings is the edge of an old US $1 coin – now obsolete. It’s roughly the width a US quarter. I include it for scale. Two stars because it does work and is quite clever. No more because for me, anyway, it’s too difficult to use.

No more cone of step up rings for me. I have the 52-72mm to 77mm which covers most of my lenses and I have mostly 77mm filters so I can just lets say use 1 nd filter set to cover all of my lenses smaller than that. To attach to your lens you simply rotate the rings in opposite directions until the center (pretty cool as it looks like an aperture ring in a lens) is smaller than your lens thread and hold with as many fingers as you need and place on the end of your lens and slowly release the spring loaded rings until it matches your lens filter size and give it a little turn to lock in to the threads (Take note that by design if you turn the filter trying to tighten it... it will spin indefinitely but you can feel the spot that is the tightest while turning and leave it there). This basically works just like your lens cap it is using springs to push out on the threads to stay attached and does not actually screw in and tighten down like an actual filter would. If you are clumsy or plan on running around in the woods and bumping your camera around then this variable step ring is not made for you as that is not what it is designed for... yes you could easily knock the ring off if you hit the end of your lens hard on something. To remove the ring you don't unscrew it but simply rotate the outer and inner rings again to remove it. All of this is the very short manual. This H&Y variable step up ring is great and works exactly as described if used as intended.

I have quite a few older prime lenses in the 52mm range. This device took a few minutes to figure out, but it worked pretty well once I did. A 77mm filter fit just fine. My only negative is that once you get it snug on the lens, it will come loose if you keep tightening. Other than that it worked as intended and does the job I needed it for.

While I love the idea behind this product, I have to say it is somewhat difficult to get used to and as such I mostly prefer just a standard step-up ring dedicated to each lens to get it to the size I want. Don't get me wrong, this thing works, it just requires a degree of dexterity that might make it challenging sometimes and as such there are simpler solutions that I would probably opt for.

Conceptually, this is a great product, hence the extra star. Execution is lackluster, but the customer support is even worse. When attached to the lens (any lens) the threading/ring simply spin indefinitely and never lock in place. Since my camera dangles from my shoulder with a strap by my side, I'm very concerned about this adapter spinning the wrong way off and either falling to the ground, breaking the filter attached, or simply falling off and not knowing, leaving both filter and adapter behind. This is especially concerning since the adapter sticks out well wide of the lens and would be the part causing friction or bumping against my side, likely unscrewing the threading. If you're working on a tripod or in studio, this may not be concerning to you. But as someone walking miles and miles with their camera, simply documenting what I see, this is a big problem.I emailed the company with a video demonstrating this issue, requesting assistance and feedback, but they clearly cannot be bothered to respond once the sale has been made. Now I guess I'm left to alert others about a faulty product and nonexistent customer service. I won't be supporting a company who won't support their customers. Buy USA.Full disclosure: I purchased this from Adorama, but given that I purchase nearly everything from Amazon, felt it relevant to share here.
