I purchased this mandolin for my grandson as a Christmas present and he loves it. The looks are awesome my materials used to build were off good quality too (solid Maple) except for the solid spruce topThe only issue we had was in the string highth and actual setup. We pulled the strings to the side, after loosening them, and using a fret for, had to lower each one (on the nut) to get the strings to be lower at the nut. They were so high, it was very uncomfortable to play (.0035 to .0028). You should just be able to fit a pick between the fret and the strings at the first fret. After recutting the nut, so the strings would sit at the right high, it completely changed the way the instrument played and sounded. My grandson played it all the time nowSo this gives him a way to learn the Mandolin at a good price, but still having it made of quality material. Yes, the finish could be better and there were some sharp spots in the corners, but after doing some adjustment to it, it turned out to be a very nice instrument.

THis is fun to play. I have been playing for a couple years and wanted to replace my cheap mandolin with a better one. It sounds much better and the neck feels better than my old mandolin.

Like one of the other reviewers said I wanted to like this mandolin. I already own a M510-DVS a style that is beautiful. I bought it a year ago new and the workmanship is beautiful. I thought for an instrument over three times the cost I would at least get the same. Sadly I was wrong. The action was extremely high which is not usually a deal breaker. I had to set the intonation, and action height on the a style too but with this one the action at the nut was extremely high. The only way to fix this is to file the nut slots and I was not going to pay this much for an instrument and do that much work to it. Other problems were the tuning keys were extremely hard to turn. I sprained my thumb trying to tune the g string. The finish was not uniform. The finish work around the neck where it joined the body was terrible. Hopefully this was just a fluke but I didn't feel like taking another chance so I returned it for a refund.

Really nice quality and tone. I suggest having a set up by a professional and replace the strings . Also having the edges of the frets dressed makes for a really nice feel. That's what I did when I got mine. I've had it 3 months now and I cant stop playing it. It holds it's tune exceptionally too. I feel that this was money very well spent and I can't say enough about it.

The tuner knobs came loose and the gear on back won't catch to tune the strings. The instrument itself seems good but the parts on it were cheap . very disappointed. Made the decision to return it and seller was very helpful and I had no problem returning it. The only real problem was the cheap parts on the instrument.

The Ibanez m700 is a solid workhorse mandolin and as good or better than anything in it's weight class. That is, under $500 import factory made mandolins. Is it competitive with a $5k Ellis or a Weber? Not really. But they can frequently be found selling well below the $500 price point (I've seen them $299 new.). They do require set up, of course.Loud clear tones and a good playable neck are it's big pros. This is a good student mando or a good backup for a gigging musician.

Didn't like that it didn't include a case. An instrument that nice should have one included. Stays in tune.
