I bought this as a Christmas gift for my 2 years old grandson because one of his favorite books to read is The Very Hungry Caterpillar. He loves to read this book with his parents and whenever I visit. I thought it would be fun and interesting for him to experience how a caterpillar grows into a butterfly. The kit came with 4-5 little caterpillars in a container, food, net, a little journal and instructions on how to take care of them. At first we thought that only 3 of the 5 survived, but it turned out that all 5 survived. Every week when I video chat with him he excitedly shows me his caterpillars and tells me what they're doing and what phase they're in. He's been patiently waiting to see them come out of their cocoon and turn into butterflies. I just love how excited he gets to show me his butterfly farm!

My wife as a daycare teacher for 4-year-old children. She followed the instructions as given with the kit. With in the time frame as in the instructions the Larve attached themselves to the top of the jar and then the butterflies hatched from the cocoons. they did feed them with oranges as suggested in the instructions till all of the butterflies were hatched. The kids got a real good experience from it and she will do it again with this year class also. This was some of the best money we spent on showing the kids how nature works. We recommend this for anyone who wants to teach their own children or classroom how nature works.

Was easy to setup. Butterflies all lived! Great product and both my kids 3 and 6 enjoyed the whole experience.

Came much faster than expected. It came almost a week early, so if you are trying to order for a specific time frame I would take that into account. Really nice that you don’t have to order the caterpillars separately. I will say the enclosure is super small. I have had kits from this same brand before for kindergarten classes and never seen such a small habitat. I am not sure how they will have much room once they turn into butterflies. I would’ve definitely spent a little more for something bigger for them if I realized it was that small, but other than that I think it’s a good kit.
