This tap worked great. I had to install a front sight on a shotgun and the screw post on it was 6-48. I cleaned up the existing hole with the proper drill bit. Used this tap to thread it and got the project done. It worked flawlessly. I am glad I purchased this and got it done.

I purchased this item knowing that the description was wrong as the tool I was working on didn't really matter either way, description needs corrected though. It did not tap in hardened steel, did in softer metals.

It’s a taper tap. The opposite of a bottoming tap. Cut fine.

A bottom tap normally has cutting threads very near to the tip. This allows you to thread shallow holes. This tap has a long conical projection which makes it impossible to tap shallow holes, such as front of receiver.
