I’m not sure why they say it’s an extracting tap. I use it as a pipe tap and it worked just fine. Very happy with it. Cuts good was good price.

Quality product. I’ve used it several times on PVC Pipe with no problems or signs of dullness. Product came in opened packaging, but there was nothing wrong with product. It appeared to be new and unused. Works great! I reached out to company asking about packaging. They immediately offered to replace product. I opted to not ask for a replacement. Excellent, responsive customer service. Highly recommend.

That said, I'm not sure if this was mis shipped but I got 5 identical NPT 1/4" taps.... I only need one. Keep that in mind for future purchases. Also, if the seller seems this, I can send back the other 4 if it was a mistake.

Make sure that you are square to what you are taping. Tap worked well.

I needed this tap for a one-off rethreading so I can't speak to the durability of this tool since I only used it once. I have an old (close to 20-years) Craftsman 30-Gallon stand-up compressor. I dropped it while transporting it and broke on of the 1/4" nipples of in the top of the tank. I first tried using an EZ-out to remove the broken section of pipe, but there was no way it was coming out and I was afraid the EZ-out would break, something that would have created a bigger problem. Fortunately, the nipple broke of clean at the top of the tank and I was able to drill it out and rethread it using this tap. The new nipple went in perfectly and I was able to put the compressor back into service. The tap worked as expected for a very reasonable price.

First want to thank Theo's review on Sept 11 which led me to purchasing this product.I was in the same predicament where the drain valve on my air compressor had broken off in my attempt to remove it and there seemed to be no way to get the threads cleared out.Specifically I have an old Porter Cable CPF4515 and the drain valve began to leak.In my attempts to remove the original soft brass drain valve, it eventually broke off and its brass threads remained in the steel threads of the drain hole in the tank. After clearing as much of the brass remnants, only the first 2-3 steel threads of the air tank were visible. The rest of the threads were still "clogged" with the soft brass of the old drain valve. Was looking into thread "chasers" but reviews seemed to be mixed as to their effectiveness. When I came across Theo's successful use of this taper for the exact reasons I had, I gave it a shot.Used a 1/2" ratchet driver with some cutting oil and slowly cleared out all the brass from the threads.Would occasionally want to cross-thread, but backed it out to get it straighten up and kept at it.This Hanson 1903ZR Tap 1/4"-18Npt Taper worked out great for my application.I'd recommend it to anyone else if they have a similar situation.

Top quality tap; used it to remove broken valve stem left inside of air compressor tank drain valve. Carefully drill a 7/16" hole through broken stem. DO NOT USE BRAD POINT drill. Since the broken valve was brass and the tank female steel, the drill pretty much self directed. Hanson tap made sharp, clean thread chasing. New steel valve went in easily, with Teflon tape of course. Saved a $200 Makita air compressor.

Tap is marked Hanson which is part of the Irwin line. Priced well. Didn’t come in a retail package but no big deal. I haven’t tried it yet but I can say anything under the Irwin brand has been a positive experience for me.
