This neat, durable tape can be easily and accurately placed on the fingerboard of any string instrument. The black color is for older students and it cannot be easily seen by the audience. Be careful what you put on your precious instrument. This tape is acid free and will not harm the surface of your instrument. Sold 1 roll in a package which is 300" long and 1/8" wide, makes up to 75 strips.

These are excellent for rental instruments. No damaged to the neck of the instrument, easy to remove, easy to apply, and does not warp or slide around the neck when under stress or work. The only minor downside: The tape is thick enough that (on some instruments) slide notes start to latch to the closest note, as the tape actually contact the string as your finger approaches the fret.Given that slide notes never happened while I was in orchestra for 8 years, and only appeared now that I'm making my own songs, I still rate this 5/5 stars, because it should absolutely be perfect for the vast majority, who are renting stringed instruments for classes.Even if you ARE doing slide notes, there is a way to apply the tape to get around the issue: Don't let the tape surround the entire neck. Remove small segments of the tape that are underneath a string. This way, you still have a reference line on either side of the string, but it won't ever mute the string itself accidentally.

For beginning strings students, I started using different colors for the fingerboard tape (1st finger = red, 2nd finger = yellow, 3rd finger = blue), and so I needed more colors than I had. This is good tape that stays on, not Cheap China Crap. It was a little tricky getting the roll started. A trick I learned is to gently tear the tape instead of cutting it. This makes it easier to peel the backing off.

I knew the installation was going to be a pain, but that's not because of the product. That's because I insist on musical perfection. If the stickers aren't in exactly the right spot, it will always drive me crazy. (Yes, I know you're supposed to base fingerings off how the instrument sounds, not where tapes are, but I haven't played viola in six years, and now that I'm in an orchestra again and have found I've forgotten a lot, I have to start somewhere.) Fortunately, these stickers can accommodate perfectionism. After I moved them a hair here and a hair there until I was satisfied, they stayed sticky enough that it looks like they're going to hold well.I wish there had been some sort of a guide or informational chart I could have used for cutting the strips the right size, but I found a way to make it work. If I were a music teacher intending to use this for as many instruments as possible, a guide would have been even more helpful. It also would have been nice if the instructions had included information on how many stickers to place and what notes to place them on, but I've had stickers before, so I already knew this, and Google can help any beginners who aren't having their music teacher do it for them. Both of these are probably unnecessary requests since there are obvious workarounds, but they would be nice features to make use easier.Overall, the tape serves it's purpose well. We'll see how well it holds up long-term, but so far, so good.

I haven't touched my cello for years. Now, I'm having difficulty remembering where the notes are. This tape has been amazing. I'm not frustrated at hitting the wrong notes. It's helping me with muscle memory , too.

Product stays on and does not apear to "gum up" the finger board. I chose black which is a little hard to see, but I can feel edges. So, this works.I did not need to wrap it completely around the finger board, so the black is hidden by the color of the board's top surface. Good for learning shifting with precision (third, fourth and fifth position). Need not use for every note on each string, but just to find shifting position for first finger and maybe, fourth ( - after moving to the third postion location, for example). Could possibly try making the tape 20% narrower!?!? That may not be physically possilbe. Also, if the tape is placed under the bowing section of the strings, and then, moved back to the correct location (keeping it high and near the underside of the strings), this makes application very easy.

Works great for my son. I know little about the viola, but once we got it tuned properly, the tapes were easy to install on our own and his teacher approved of the placement. His teacher applied different colors for each placement on his first viola, but the black is nice because it blends in. He still needs the tapes but has enough experience that he doesn't really need the colors.

This black tape is perfect! The tape can not be seen unless you are really close to it (playing it) which is great, as I am an older beginner and didn't want obvious markings on the instrument. The tape stays in place and does not slide around. It was very easy to put on. I have not tried to take it off yet, but the adhesive seems like it would not damage anything on my violin. You also get quite a bit of tape with this. WAY more than I needed, but if you are a teacher or have multiple instruments you would use it on, there is plenty for you! Would recommend.

This tape is easy to apply and adheres nicely. The red, yellow and blue colors are easy to see at a sideways glance. As I'm applying it, I cut each piece of tape a tad wider than the fingerboard and and press the ends over the edges of the fingerboard. This way there is no tape on the neck of the violin. Works nicely. Two thumbs up.

Great for beginner violin students. I bought this to use instead of stickers.Installation Tip: To place tape on the violin while the strings are on, put tape under strings toward the bridge where the gap is bigger and then move up to correct position and put in place.
