I use this paint thickness meter at Auto Auctions to check paint thickness variance and get an overall feel of the vehicle condition and assess if major paint work has been done on it. This can greatly change the price of the vehicle, specially if the vehicle is being represented with a clean title, no accidents on records.Another use is for when I need to polish a panel and I use it to get an average paint thickness across the entire car to understand how much clear coat I can polish without damaging the base coat of paint. This unit works great and I have had no issues with it so far and the price is awesome too comparing to other brands!

Many years ago, I worked at a car dealership where our buying team used these devices frequently. I always found it amazing how you could reliably tell whether a panel had been repainted, even when it wasn’t obvious to the eye. Since I’ve also been into car detailing for most of my life, I knew I’d want to own one of these someday. Fast forward to this product.I love the physical design of the device and the large, clear display. It's super lightweight and has a grippy texture, making it easy to hold, and the automatic reading feature is great—no buttons to press while trying not to damage the paint. You just lightly press the device onto the surface, and it gives a reading within one or two seconds. The functionality is fantastic.To test its accuracy, I compared its readings with the included thickness samples, and I’m happy to say that all the measurements were within 2 to 3 µm of the listed values. For the price, that’s pretty impressive accuracy and will certainly have me covered on my use cases.One of the best features of this setup is the carrying case. It always bothers me when small, fragile, and expensive electronics come with no protective case. It’s nearly impossible to find a good case for oddly shaped, less popular items, so the inclusion of a well-designed, semi-hard case is a huge plus in my book. The case feels sturdy and should offer solid protection. It also comes with a small finger hook you can attach to prevent the device from hitting the ground if dropped.All in all, for the price, I truly can’t recommend this one enough. Time will tell when it comes to longevity, but based on my experience so far, I don’t expect it to fail anytime soon. I’ll definitely update my review if anything changes. Highly recommended!

This is very useful for determining the quality of a paint job as it measures paint thickness. You will be surprised at the varying degrees of paint depth from one measurement to the next. Even small movements from left to right may produce large discrepancies. I was very surprised when I measured my vehicle against "old" paint versus "new" paint applied when unfortunately I was t-boned.The "new' paint was less thick than the "old" factory paint. One spot in particular faded over time and completely changed color but was easily picked by this device.I am a DIY guy and this is good tool to add to the arsenal.

I ordered this product so that I can take it on car buying trips to make sure I'm not paying for damage repair. I'm also using it to know if I need to be careful when detailing a car.This is easy to use as you just contact the surface and the switch is activated to take the measurement. The reading holds for several seconds after measuring.
