I'm 5'11" and 255 lbs with medium build and a good sized potbelly. I bought a size up based on reviews and got the XXL but feel like the XL would have been enough.Just spent a weekend at the Texas Gulf ocean and feel slightly disappointed; mainly due to the size and water retention. The MATERIAL is great and comfortable with no itching, rash or anything like that.SUN protection is great as I am as pale as I ever was where the shirt covered. I spent a few hours out each day and it was 95-105 real feel each day but I didn't get even tan underneath.WATER RETENTION - it wasn't terrible and could be because it fit loosely on my and there was a lot of cloth but I did have to ring it out on all sides while walking back on shore to not have that wet-t-shirt vibe for a bearded male. It definitely wasn't as bad as cotton but more than I expected.DESIGN - i would have preferred a straight black one but the black with gray sides isn't terrible.DURABILITY - heavy use over an extended memorial weekend with good strong gulf waves and it looks like I haven't worn it. Only washed and air dried once thus far.OVERALL: I don't know about the buy a size up but maybe it's because the only thing keeping me out of a large (in my regular tees) is my potbelly and my love handles so perhaps XL would be a technical size up for me, I don't know. But I'll probably be getting an XL next. I will choose another brand if I can get it in all black though this was the best rated swim shirt

Absolutely love it! Comfortable and while it blocks the son rays it doesn’t leave me feeling hot or uncomfortable while in the pool. Nice breathable fabric and sizing is true to advertising. Material seems to be great quality! Highly recommend!

Middle-aged dad here who has both gained some baby weight in the last few years and developed a big disdain for skin cancer. Bought this to wear at the beach this summer in the ocean for both protection and cover-up. Those six-pack abs are not what they used to be and I would like to lessen the slather of chemicals that my wife insists on rubbing me down with.* * THINGS I LIKED * *(+) Nice fit, somewhat tailored but not tight. I did buy a 4XL when I normally wear a 3XL but that is because I didn't want it to fit like a wet suit top and show off all my beach-curves.(+) Nice material.. it is definitely synthetic, but after multiple all-day wears and multiple washings, it hasn't snagged or pilled and still looks great.(+) Good protection from the rays. Wearing it allowed me to reduce the chemical sun-block to just my face, head, neck, arms and legs, and believe it when I say that is a big improvement.(+) Great value for the price.* * THINGS THAT COULD BE BETTER * *(-) Not much, really... maybe better color choices? But all in all, it is a casual-style shirt that would work being worn into a food establishment.. it doesn't SCREAM beach style and could be tucked into dockers or canvas shorts for dinner.* * PURCHASE RECOMMENDATION * *Absolutely, buy a few in multiple colors.... you won't regret it and your skin will thank you. Totally worth the money. Was in the sun for hours and had excellent sun protection as well as good wash-ability post ocean. Salt water did nothing to the quality. True to size, great fit and comfortable. Also great at hiding that unsightly baby weight I gained through each of my wife's pregnancies.

I love to wear these as my pajamas they are really soft and comfortable. I overheat easily when I sleep and these are light weight and breathable in.The only downside is that the material scratches really easily.

I really like these swim shirts! I take them with me on vacation to the Dominican Republic. It keeps the sun off my shoulders and chest while I'm in the pool. Saves me from getting burns. The shirt wears very comfortably in the water and dries quickly when you get out.

Fits true to size without being too body hugging. My husband is normal to a little heavy in tummy - aren’t we all! Great quality, well finished seams and fabric.
