The Kestrel 5000 Handheld Environmental Meter
The Kestrel 5000 Environmental Meter is a remarkably powerful measuring and data logging tool providing trusted accuracy, reliability, and usability in a remarkably compact unit. Use it for research, safety, expeditions, agriculture and any other profession or activity where accurate on-the-spot conditions monitoring is key.
In addition to measuring the current environmental conditions, the Kestrel 5000 tracks and logs over 10,000 sets of time-stamped data. Your data log can be transferred to a iOS/Android device wirelessly with the LiNK wireless communication option and Kestrel LiNK app, or to a Windows/Mac device with either the accessory Kestrel LiNK Dongle or waterproof USB Data Transfer Cable (Both sold separately).

Much easier just to get the Elite if you plan on using this for shooting. Thought I'd just get for weather, but it works great when you have the Elite ballistic.

I was fortunate enough to be able to test several models, including simultaneous comparison. Kestrel weather meters are very well made and it is easy to see why the value is realized by paying more for the Made in the US than saving the money for the made in china models. The claim of "rugged" is accurate and the ability to take very sensitive measurements is fascinating. The accuracy of, for example, the temperature is seen in how temperatures change, even while going from the kitchen to the living room. The wind measurement, too, was very accurate and as other reviews pointed out, being able to have 3 measurements on one screen is a plus.Well made, highly accurate, fine scientific instrument. Even the barometer readings, while using the change in elevation from our local airport, where official readings are, to my location (significant changes in elevation) are precise.I spent time in an online Q and A with Kestrel before the purchase; they provide great customer service. Great product; great company.

The Kestrel 5000 is a great wind meter for the long distance shooter. I bought one of these to help me with long range PRS style matches. Not only has it been helpful for the wind speed readings, and learning to guess wind speeds, but the Density Altitude function is what I chose it for. Several of the Kestrel models allow you to look up and enter environmental settings such as temperature, barometer, humidity, etc. What Density Altitude does is take all of those factors and give you one equivalent altitude. I made drop cards for various Density Altitudes and I just get one reading and use that for my matches. I am able to get my firing information much quicker than the guys that are still trying to look up the various numbers and inputting them into a ballistic program.

The meter appears lightly used, the screen plastic film seems like it had been peeled off before.Temps and humidity are accurate enough. Pressure sensor is spot on.One thing to be aware of is that when you're using the unit in violent storms, water will seep in the humidity sensor and display 100%RH until it completely dries out.Overall sastisfied purchase.

Works great! It was fantastic for me have the Kestrel App auto-sync via bluetooth with my iPhone and then export the data to a CSV file (importable by popular spreadsheet programs)....then I was able to more easily share the data with my students. I have only tried syncing with one iPhone although the instructions say multiple iPhones can simultaneously connect.

I purchased this as a person who's learning the art of long range shooting. This device links seamlessly with my cell phone and has two forms of back lights. If I don't happen to have the phone with me, I find that the program is easily read on the screen provided. Finally, this product is rugged enough, that I don't mind leaving it jostling around in my gun bag.All in all, a solid product, and when I wear it down, I'm grabbing another one!

I purchased the Kestrel 5000 Environmental Meter to provide accurate local readings for a portable astronomical observatory. It has proven well worth the expense, for with it I can record accurate measurements of basic environmental conditions pertinent to visual observation so that I can make the most out of future observing runs, and the barometer/hygrometer combination certainly helps with point forecasting. Also, the red back light ensures I won't ruin my dark adaptation. The addition of a weather vane mount will certainly help so that both direction and wind speed can be measured.

Got it for the Bluetooth link to my phone and it works great. Easy to configure and connect. Haven't used it outdoors yet but looking forward to doing so.
